Since the new owner took over, it's been constant improvements, starting with no more ceiling leaks, all new paint and carpet, every single thing thoroughly cleaned and organized. If you were an old member of Ford's, you won't believe your eyes. All fresh pads and new equipment is being added -- stuff you've probably never seen before that allows for safer and more focused lifts. Everything is put up in a proper place. Crap isn't scattered around and racks are labeled so you know exactly where to put loose weights. And for the first time in years, staff is actually nice, saying hello and bye, being helpful if you need help, keeping order when necessary. Even a new first rate stereo. New cardio equipment, multiple stair machines, an aerobic torture device called "Jacob's Ladder," and everything works. Bathrooms and showers are scrubbed out and clean. It's the best gym I've ever been in and I've been in gyms in many cities across the US. If you're serious about weights and getting stronger, this is the place to be.
Last thing. There are all types -- first time in a gym to professional, young, old, in shape, out of shape, men, women, super strong, not strong, stylish to simple -- but the great thing is that no one bothers or judges. In the years I've been here, Dark Times to now, the great atmosphere...
Read moreNow hear me out, this isn’t a negative review at all about the place. Environment, workers, atmosphere, all around a great gym. just something you don’t see much. That being said, when i walked in, the owner didn’t take the time to get to know me or even ask my name. instead, he immediately started listing off rules, without an introduction or a welcome. it felt uninviting, and honestly, it didn’t give me a good first impression. My passion is making cinematic gym content. I love the gym and i take it very seriously. This is the best gym around here for the content i make. but he doesn’t allow tripods. Reckon i film on an actual camera. he allows gym bags on the floor, he allows content creation with phones placed on equipment, but doesn’t allow tripods. got my gym membership terminated today over a tripod and he would’ve had a life time customer out of me and many people i know if he allowed a $30 tripod so i can pursue what i love to do. Overall great gym, would recommend anyone who doesn’t film to go here, the owner has done a great job with making the gym the way it is now. just sucks i couldn’t get a refund or a notice before i paid for the membership and wasted money as a college student. i wish nothing but the best for him and everyone else who’s apart of...
Read moreTraveling across the US, I try to find gyms I can drop into. I had a great experience at Glenn Ford’s Fitness Center in Lexington. The gym has a classic, old-school vibe, reminiscent of the kind you see back in the heyday years of powerlifting. . You might look around and imagine seeing a young Arnold Schwarzenegger or Franco Columbu training there. The equipment is older but well-maintained and full of character, adding to its unique charm. The variety of equipment, from barbells and dumbbells to machines, made for a great workout. The staff was extremely friendly, and the clean restrooms and showers were a big plus. They also offer supplements and merch, which is super convenient. As a traveler, I appreciated finding such a welcoming and well-equipped gym. They also offer a one-day drop-in for $15 plus tax, which was really convenient. While I was there the Texas A&M basketball staff and a few players did a drop in m, which speaks to its appeal for athletes on the road. If I lived here, this would definitely be my...
