Four Oaks Farm Country Store is more than just a place to buy groceries; it is a living testament to a rich Southern heritage, a family legacy, and a community hub. With a history spanning nearly a century, this business has evolved from a simple farm specializing in premium pork to a beloved country store that brings a taste of the past to modern-day tables. The story of Four Oaks Farm is one of tradition, quality, and the enduring appeal of genuine, handcrafted products.
Founded in 1929, the business began with the Mathias family's dedication to farming and, later, the art of curing and smoking meats. Their reputation for high-quality pork, particularly from their award-winning Berkshire hogs, grew throughout the mid-20th century. In the 1970s, the family transformed an old farm barn into the country store we know today, creating a dedicated space to sell their famous meats and other farm-fresh goods. This pivotal moment marked a shift from a purely agricultural operation to a retail destination, allowing them to share their time-honored traditions with a wider audience. The name itself, inspired by the four grand oak trees on the family property, symbolizes the deep roots and steadfast nature of the business.
What truly sets Four Oaks Farm apart is its unwavering commitment to quality. The store's core offerings—dry-cured hams, smoked bacon, and pure pork sausage—are made using family secrets and methods passed down through four generations. This dedication to authentic, old-fashioned techniques ensures that each product is "delightfully different" from mass-produced alternatives. Beyond their signature meats, the store offers a wide array of Southern delicacies, including homemade jams, jellies, honey, syrups, and an assortment of sweet and savory treats like pecan brittle and cheese straws. The selection extends to include pantry staples like stone-ground grits and pancake mixes, as well as a variety of frozen foods and locally sourced produce. This diverse product line transforms the store into a one-stop shop for anyone seeking a true taste of the South.
Four Oaks Farm also serves as a vital community cornerstone. By providing a space where locals can find quality, locally-sourced goods, the store fosters a sense of place and supports neighboring farmers. For many, a visit to Four Oaks Farm is a nostalgic experience, "like stepping into a warm embrace of history and flavor." The store's role as a provider of gift boxes has become a beloved tradition, especially during the holidays, as customers send "a taste of home" to loved ones near and far. These gift boxes, featuring a curated selection of their best-selling products, are a testament to Southern hospitality and a simple, yet powerful, way to share a cherished piece of their heritage.
In an age of big-box stores and fast-paced consumerism, Four Oaks Farm Country Store stands as a beacon of tradition and authenticity. It is a place where every product tells a story, every purchase supports a family legacy, and every visit is a step back in time. The store's success is not just measured in sales, but in the loyalty of its customers and its lasting impact on the community it has served for generations. Four Oaks Farm Country Store reminds us that some things are worth preserving—the flavors of the past, the value of quality, and the warmth of a true country welcome. I was advised by many people in the area to visit Four Oaks Farm as I was looking to create a "South Carolina made" gift basket for multiple family members for the holidays. I am so glad that this was recommended to me as it was perfect!
Everything that I picked up from the store was spectacular. The items that I picked out were priced fairly and I couldn't be happier with the selection. I even picked up a few things for myself that I sampled at home and everything I tried was delicious! I did have a small issue with one of the items when I got home, but after contacting the store over the phone they made it right and then some. They went above and beyond my expectations and have gained a customer for life.
While in the store, I worked with a man at the meat counter named David. David was phenomenal and extremely helpful. Later at the register, I was told that David was a partial owner of the store. With great leadership like that, I can see why the store is as great as it is.
I will definitely return and will be doing my holiday and gift shopping at Four Oaks Farm for many...

It took me moving back “home” to western NC, opening up a business & receiving their breakfast “box” as a Christmas gift the past 2 years & this year I had a pro cook prepare this stuff...our mother!
It was so good. The pancakes have little light, crispy edges (they should patent them). The bacon is fantastic & the syrup is really good (not too sweet).
If you know people (including yourself) who would appreciate this for ANY occasion, you need to run on down to their farm or website & LOAD UP!!
We were all raised in the mountains of NC & know good, fresh food. This is phenomenal. We haven’t had the country ham yet, but I know it was good due to last year’s unveiling. But I’m sure my mother can prepare it better than me by a long shot.
Merry Christmas to everyone reading this, even you — the people in July going “what?! It’s...
