To go off of James S. comment and rating . .. besides having two good teachers, (not easy A assignments) from the whole curriculum down to the communication has been garbage. I had problems with financial aid, timing and you need everything done by (insert date). So I plan, I email/call accordingly and because they may be on vacation (which is fine, but I don't know. Why would I?), by the time they get back with the questions I have . . . it's too late and it's "my fault".
Also, just because you get a summary of what the class teaches . . . it doesn't guarantee you'll actually go over it. Those hybrid classes are hit/miss when it goes to communicating and they get back to you . . . the day the assingment is due. Contacting any "help desk" vs NOVA Employees is also a hit/miss not really being consistent . . . and if you get misinformed by them, it's also your fault.
One of my classes I had to do, I needed to drop due to the fact of not wanting to be penalized for not showing up . . . but all the teacher did on the "first assignment day" was talk about their accomplishments for an hour. I dropped my work shift . . . just so they could talk about an hour on themselves and not an actual assignment. Also, their communication was very contradicting what they said . . . verses what they actually wanted. Again, if you mess up . . . it's still your fault even if you thought you knew the assignment and asked questions. Nope you're still stupid and don't know anything - you get a C. Unfortunately, it was too late to swap and since I dropped that class . . . instead of getting approximately like $1,500 back . . . I got maybe $200. Shocked but whatever I am busy . . . and don't have time to have this fifth fight. I was grateful for getting anything.
Last and not least, there has been other people that have gone to NOVA (different campuses) and there are just really big issues that still have not gotten resolved . . . and every issue I have stated . . . they said "Yep, sounds about right." Only reason why this is getting one star is because the only thing they did fix . . . was one semester the teacher was so horrible with their instructions and didn't even show to their own class half the time, NOVA let me swap with another class instead of dropping so I could within that semester continue. That's it.
Please don't go here if you think any Hybrid class will help you online only/zoom. Any in-person class would be better if that's...
Read moreMs. Corrine House has been nothing short of the worst advisor I could've expected at NOVA. I have had to chase her down EVERY semester for help when I'm having inevitable, unavoidable problems with registration and financial aid, which are notoriously awful. I wouldn't get email responses from her for sometimes weeks at a time, causing me to reach out to people who were not tied to my issue at all. I have had several kind people in unrelated departments assist me over the phone from the Annandale Campus, but I shouldn't have to distract them from something unrelated to their job because my counselor can't do HER job and respond to my emails. I have lost my place in classes and stressed at the start of a new semester, being dropped from classes with NO prior notice. I called the student registrar for assistance during this time and was told that they DIDN'T HAVE TIME TO HELP ME. AND THEN HUNG UP. A lot of the administration just doesn't care. It's very frustrating and has made my successful more difficult than it should be. They should be FACILITATING my success, not making it difficult and causing me...
Read moreI wanted to leave a review to explain a few things. To all the people complaining that their class was to hard, this is a school for ADULTS. This isnt highschool where the teachers will hold your hand and guide you through the class. You are expected to put forth the effort and LEARN SOMETHING. If the teacher just GAVE you the information, there would be no need for you to commit that to memory. So grow up and quit crying about how unfair life is.
Secondly i have actually been to a couple other community colleges around the country and this by FAR was the best. My teachers were amazing and had no problems helping me with anything as long as i reached out to them first and showed that i wanted the information. Best thing you could do for yourself is to go to a community college and then transfer to a 4 year. NOVA also has REALLY good transfer programs between the public universities in Virginia...
