Course was apparently double booked, didn’t end up teeing off until 20-30 minutes after our scheduled tee time. Was understandably stuck waiting on just about every hole in the front 9 for the group in front of us to tee off or get far enough down to shoot safely, which we were prepared for given how busy it was and weren’t too upset by it. Front 9 took 3+ hours, consequently. The group in front only played 9 holes so it opened up in the back nine, but our group was met by the ranger as we teed off on the 11th hole. He rudely yelled at us, accusing us of being the ones holding up the course and needing to play faster. Wasn’t interested in hearing our explanation that it has been the group ahead of us all morning. He said there was no group ahead of us. He yelled at us again after we chipped into the green of that very same hole, and two more times on the next hole. For the record, our back 9 for a foursome was sub 2 hours including the 5 minutes for each of the four times he stopped our game to yell at us. As for the course itself, it is pretty tight, and by tight I mean all the holes are laid out very close to one another without much space between each fairway. There were a lot of sliced/hooked balls that ended up on our fairway. One event had us ducking on the tee box as a ball whizzed past and landed on the green beside us which another group had been putting on at the time. We heard “fore” quite a lot. One of the holes on the back 9 seemed to be under construction and had a makeshift “green” that was just the fairway which was cut a bit shorter. On the plus side the entire round was only 20-something dollars for 18 holes and to my pleasant surprise they threw in a free Gatorade when I was paying for the round, I guess for it being so backed up that morning.
The short version: -Double booked morning lead to very busy and crowded course -very rude ranger -one hole had a “fairway green” in the back 9 -congested course with lots of errant and potentially dangerous balls cheap free Gatorade for inconvenience
Overall it’s a cheap course which, if given a little more love and care, could be quite a deal, so long as you keep your head on a swivel for flying balls. The entire experience was soured considerably by the golf ranger repeatedly interrupting our game though, and conveniently waiting until the group after us finished up...
Read moreI booked a tee time for a Sunday a few weeks ago around 530pm for 4 for myself & my staff of employees for my company golf outing. I called a week in advance to book my tee time and stated I wanted to book a tee time to try to get 18 holes in. The person on the phone stated, I'll put you down for 9 holes trying to get in as many as we could. When I arrived to check in, the young man stated I have you paying for 4 for 18 holes understanding you may not get all 18 holes in. I said, that's not what the person I spoke to told me. Out of left field comes a much older man stating I was here last Sunday and would have told you this. I said that's not what you told me. We then discussed what I should pay for since rain was in the forecast and he stated, "we don't give rain checks". I paid $104 for 4 for 9 holes plus a cart. After 4 holes, we received a return cart to the clubhouse warning due to tornado warnings. My employee went in and asked what now, the man in the clubhouse said that's it. My employee was not happy. $104 for 4 holes? Luckily, a group behind us told us that the course told us to come in due to inclimate weather, thus they had to issue us a rain check. The group behind us went in to get there rain checks no problem. After they left, I said 4 for 530pm and the old man said what about it? I said we got 4 holes in and I want a rain check. He didn't say anything, then handed me a crumpled pile of receipts. This was my 1st time visiting this course, and as a fellow business owner after the way we were treated, I will never come to this course again, not even to use my measly $14 rain check they gave me. The old man working there is clearly a stale employee and does not know a thing about customer service. I do not nor will never recommend this course to anyone. You have...
Read moreIt of the 3 Muni Livonia courses this is, by far, the least acceptable. In all honesty I've avoided this place like the plague for years, yet somehow once a year I get a call from a buddy, hey 18 at 9am? So I go, and always regret it. The course itself is cramped and small with some tee boxes on top of greens. There are drainage issues and it's always soaked. Perhaps the most annoying thing is the course is always under construction, some green somewhere is tore up and you are putting on a fairway on a temporary green which is just a nice way of saying we stuck a flag in the fairway.
In addition, while the other 2 Livonia munis have updated their carts with gps and overhead shelves for personal belongings for over 2 years, Idyl Wyld has not. One would think that all Livonia courses would have the same things available, yet Idyl lacks in so many ways. This year they have yet to spray paint stores on the cart path directing you too the next box. While not a necessity on most courses, Idyl needs this because the layout is choppy often requiring the player to loop around 2 or 3 holes to find their next one.
In sum, if you golf a Livonia course, pass on Idyl, fox creek and whispering willows are vastly superior. The pricing is about the same on all 3 courses anyway, you might as well golf on the...
