A Gem of a Grocery Store at E.C. Porter IGA
E.C. Porter IGA at 714 E 4th St, London, KY, is a shining example of what a community grocery store should be, earning every bit of its 5-star rating. This family-owned supermarket, established in 1914, offers a delightful shopping experience with its wide selection, top-notch deli, and exceptional service. For anyone in London looking for quality groceries and a welcoming vibe, Porter IGA is a must-visit.
I stopped by to stock up for a family gathering, and I was blown away by the store’s cleanliness and organization. The shelves are always well-stocked with fresh produce, dairy, and pantry staples, but the meat department is the real star. As Jacob Hammons noted in a review, their meat room is unmatched, offering fresh cuts at competitive prices. I grabbed some steaks and ground beef for burgers, and the quality was outstanding—better than larger chains like Kroger. The deli is another highlight; their chunky chicken salad is a fan favorite, and I couldn’t resist grabbing some for lunch. The custom birthday cake I ordered for my mom was not only delicious but beautifully decorated, outshining other local retailers.
The staff’s friendliness makes all the difference. From the cashier to the deli team, everyone was eager to help, offering smiles and quick service even during a busy sale. Reviews from Barbara Reid and Dianna Watson echo this, praising the staff’s excellence and the store’s consistent cleanliness. Compared to other local options, Porter IGA feels more personal and community-driven, supporting local farmers and offering unique items you won’t find elsewhere.
While some might find the deli prices a tad high, the quality justifies it, and their weekly specials keep things affordable. Open daily from 7 AM (8 AM Sundays) to 9 PM, it’s convenient for any schedule. Porter IGA has become my go-to for groceries and deli treats in London, and I’m already looking forward to...
Read moreThis is a typical small town IGA, items are much higher here than at the big box stores. Prices will fluctuate drastically on meats and dairy products, which are already inflated, as the owner see's fit for his wallet. A pack of chicken tenderloins 8 days ago was $6.59....today 8/6/21, the same pack was $9.89. Do yourself a favor and battle the crowd at the big box's so this owner can feel the pinch. Ok, so 6 months later....today is 2/20/22 and prices are still almost double what the big boxes are. Owner has locked in lots of seniors and enjoys their lack of knowledge....
Read moreBuyer beware! Last week i called in an order for half of a packer brisket. When i got there i asked for the flat half of the brisket. They had cut it in half and left me the point side with all the fat on it and jacked up the price $2/lb. Obviously i didn't buy it. This is not the first time I've caught the meat department trying to cheat the public. They were also putting dead weight in the spare rib packs under the ribs and calling them "family packs". I've done a lot of business with them but no more. The meat dept manager should be fired. You don't do...
