Before signing up, I messaged Phantom Stays on X. I explained that I’m a Canadian resident with a US LLC, an EIN, and a US Amex Bizz Gold Card. I asked if he could help me get another one. He said yes. I asked how long it would take. He said 2 weeks. Based on that, I paid and joined.
After joining the Slack channel, I was then told I would need an ITIN and the process would take 6-9 months. This was never mentioned beforehand. Classic bait and switch.
When I asked to cancel, his response was that it was my fault for not mentioning ITIN in our X DMs. That is true, but I had no reason to bring it up, I didn’t even know what an ITIN was at the time, and I never needed one to get approved for my current US Amex BGC (Canadian Amex credit scores can be used for US Amex cards without needing ITIN). I gave him all the details I had before paying, and he confirmed I was good to go.
Instead of treating it as a misunderstanding, he insulted me further. He told me he wasn’t surprised because of my “lack mentality,” claimed I was in the bottom 5% of net worth, and said it was “embarrassing” that I wanted my $700 back. He even said he was going to “put me on blast” for requesting a refund.
He also claims, I'm the only person to ever cancel, but I saw him make that same claim about someone else a month ago.
Maybe the group itself has value, but this is the person running it. My advice is to be very cautious, especially when you see something with only 5-star reviews. It also makes sense why the owner hides his face and name.
