Great organization! Uncle Dave's really saved me. I brought my son back to LA from Phoenix where he had been living on the streets. I put him in one of the few motels that would take him. It was expensive and disgusting. I spent days searching and there were no programs or reasonably priced housing for men that I could get my son into. Eventually I found Uncle Dave's Housing. I was amazed at how beautiful the neighborhood was. The house is large and clean. Where else could I find a clean, safe place for $650 a month, including utilities? The manager, Mikael, is firm but kind. He showed a lot of patience towards my son, who is a great guy inside, but very exasperating. This house is close to a methadone clinic and mental health services. My son was there a few months and then left. Mikael told me he was welcome back. When my son wanted to get clean again he returned for another stint. Mikael was so nice in calling and informing me of things when it was getting rough so I could prepare myself. I will always appreciate Mikael and Uncle Daves. It is a very unique organization; they are performing a very important service. The men there are not all addicts. Many are just trying to get back on their feet after unemployment, divorce, etc. But I think this job of providing shorter-term, affordable housing for men is a very difficult job that requires a balance of being understanding, but tough. They have to keep problems low to give a decent home at low-cost. They somehow manage to complete this miraculous task. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU to Mikael and...
Read moreI learned about Uncle Dave’s Housing from an ad i posted on Craigslist looking for a room. I had just moved to LA, and was in a hotel. I called and met with Michael the house manager that day. He gave me a tour of the house and I really liked the vibe of the house, the cleanliness, the amenities, and how easy the conversation was with Michael. I agreed to rent a bed, it’s shared living, and I went back to my hotel, gathered my stuff and checked out. I met Uncle Dave not long after, and he was an awesome human being who cared about his clients. I have been at my house for 6 months now, and I couldn’t be happier. If anyone ever asked me about renting somewhere, I’d definitely let them know about Uncle Dave. It really has...
