I'm hesitant to post this review because I normally love working out here, especially for the track, which not every gym has. Most of the employees are very friendly. However, the way I was treated yesterday was unacceptable enough that I have to write this.

The rec closes early, but I respect this is a government-funded facility and they want to let their employees leave. I always get out as soon as closing time hits (7 PM on Fridays - key fact of this story) and am never the last customer to leave.

It was 6:58 PM yesterday and I was midway through the second-to-last lap on my run, fully aware of the time and planning to be done at 7 sharp (each lap is 0.1 mile and I was running at a ~9 min mile pace). I had my earbuds in but faintly heard a voice yell "we're closed!" I didn't know where the voice was coming from, but ignored it and kept running as I was fully aware it was 6:58 and they were NOT yet closed.

So as I started my last lap, I saw the clock shift to 6:59 PM and sped up - I was in a groove and wanted to end my run on a good note. I was going to be done before the clock struck 7. As I was about a third of the way through the lap, I felt a tap on my back (!!!!). I turned and an older, white employee yelled in my face, "WE'RE CLOSED!!!!" Completely taken aback as I was not expecting someone to be CHASING ME AROUND THE TRACK, I said back to him, "No I have one more minute! And I'm on my last lap!" I didn't hear if he said anything back as I turned and continued my final lap (still had earbuds in). As I reflected on this after the fact, there were so many things I should have said back including some WAY LESS NICE LANGUAGE. How DARE he CHASE a female patron around the track (he had to be running pretty fast as I was going at a decent pace), and how DARE HE TOUCH ME and use the excuse that they were closed - when THEY WERE NOT EVEN CLOSED YET!! Absolutely unacceptable. Fortunately I don't see this employee there often, but next time I see him he and his management will be hearing from me. Do not DARE ever touch me again. And by the way, if it is a minute BEFORE closing I WILL continue to finish the last 30 seconds of my workout in the future thank you VERY much. FYI closing time on the door says 7 PM NOT...

The weight room itself is excellent, but several pain points with memberships/logistics:

  1. You can't set up a recurring monthly membership using a credit card - you have to bring in a physical check to prove your bank info. Sharing raw bank account info is incredibly bad security-wise, plus it's 2021 - who has checks any more these days?
  2. "The Non-Resident Louisville Business Pass" is a nice discount for monthly/yearly memberships for people like myself who work in the town while living elsewhere. But this doesn't extend to punch/day passes, which would make much more sense for someone also like myself who only wants to use this gym once a week or so. It's pretty expensive if you're not going 3x/week.
  3. A scanner to check in would be much faster than waiting in line to tell the desk person your # each time you check in.
  4. The mask mandate even if vaccinated is a huge pain if you plan on breathing hard at all (it's a gym!), but that's set by the city/county so no stars...

Rude! Everyday, I come in and hand my membership card to the front desk person. Nearly all are SO RUDE. I have stood there many times more than 5 minutes just to have my membership card swiped. They just sit on the phone and won't look at me. Some smirk nasty at me. I have said hello, and they do not even respond. I have NEVER had cross words with ANYONE there. And they are so rude to me!

Gross! The trainers never wipe down the equipment. They make nasty comments about members. People rarely put their weights away. Children hangout in the weight room and do nothing. Parents just turn their little monsters loose to do whatever. A child wearing flipflops in the weight room can hurt themselves! Especially since people leave their weights anywhere they feel like it. People leave weights on the equipment. This makes it difficult for older members to use the equipment.

There are a couple exceptions to this who are...
