Last night I had an intense medical emergency. I have asthma, and had an asthma attack, fainted, then apparently had a seizure. About 30 seconds into a coughing fit I stood up to catch my breath but stumbled to the ground and collapsed in my garage. For about 30 seconds I was blacked out and seizing. After getting back on my feet, Rachel took me to the Macon ER. I hate to complain, but I had the WORST experience checking into the ER. I came into the EMPTY ER staggering. Rachel was literally holding me up from falling over. Having just seized and hardly able to breathe, the woman working the front desk neglected to even make eye contact with me or Rachel being that she was clearly in the middle of a personal conversation. We were frantic and she ignored us while she wrapped up her chat. Becoming (rightfully so) impatient and concerned we approached her office when she proceeded to tell me how I need to “WAIT MY TURN AND SHES BUSY.” Keep in mind, I could barely speak or breath and Rachel was frantic and begin insisting they listen to us because I had passed out, hit my head, and potentially had a seizure. Once in her office she continued CHECKING ME IN WHEN I COULD BARELY BREATHE with a condescending tone and attitude. She buzzed into the ER and began relaying my symptoms (FINALLY) except she said it in a tone that would indicate I was lying, that perhaps I was making a bigger deal than it actually was. She then asked me to GO BACK TO THE WAITING ROOM until someone could come out to get me. Let me repeat, she asked a person who was having extreme difficulty standing, breathing, and speaking, who also had passed out and had a seizure to GO BACK TO THE WAITING ROOM. Rachel said I would absolutely not get up until someone came out. We exchanged some additional words and I asked her to simply stop talking to me as she was being condescending. She then began to ARGUE with me (an ER patient) about the fact that she was not being condescending. In an effort to keep my composure I stood up and stumbled to the first chair I could find outside her door (which wasn’t in the actual waiting room bc I couldn’t make it that far). Once sat down again, I began to fall over AGAIN and Rachel started yelling for help…BECAUSE NO ONE WAS HELPING US even though the ER was EMPTY. The clerk got on the phone and AGAIN with a snarky and condescending tone said “they are SAYING he needs someone to come out now and get him.” Never mind the fact that she could visibly witness what was happening, yet she still was communicating in a way that was snarky and suggested I was faking.
I’ve never been so disrespected at a time when I really needed help in my entire life. And I’ve been in the Army and divorced. Once inside the ER, the actual doctor, nurse, and medical professionals were wonderful—10/10. The woman working at the front desk was combative, unnecessarily rude and delayed my access to care. Had it been a worse case scenario, things could have went very differently and the woman working the front desk would still have given no f*s and instead of her gossiping to her friends about Rachel and I “demanding help”, she’d be telling about me dying on the floor in the waiting room. If you aren’t interested in helping people, don’t work...
Read moreI never leave reviews on stuff but this place is a joke. I can’t think of many people who haven’t had an issue here and today my sister in law went in to ER -tried going to urgent care and they told her to go to the ER and it was bad. The dr came in asked “why are you here” she told him and he said “that’s not an emergency- do you know where you are? It’s literally in the name emergency room” was extremely rude and belittling towards her. She was then given the number for their surgeon and told how to help symptoms until surgery. There are a few and I mean very few good drs/nurses that have helped us greatly before with situations but we prefer to go out of town. I could go on and on about this place honestly .. I’m grateful for the good staff there and when they have helped but we try to avoid this hospital...
Read moreThis hospital is the biggest joke in the history of any hospital in the state. The hospitals in third world country's would be a huge upgrade from this terrible hospital.. The short Fat Doctor with his 54oz soda walking around so busy. But there were no other patients in the building. Refused my MOM fluids for 1.5 hrs. When ALL here levels Clearly should she needed fluids. The nurses where acting like a doctor. Even the director of nursing came in acting like a doctor. Telling MY family we either put a DNR bracelet on or they would do anything for her. My Lawyers will have fun...
