Starkweather Park — Local services in Madison

There is a new gravel construction access road that leads into the park off of Milwaukee st. Last time I came here in the spring, I thought it was an actual park for hiking. The bike path cuts through the northern end of it, but the southern portion nearest to Woodman's grocery is essentially a homeless camp. There is trash and abandoned tents everywhere. This is one of the few quiet, solitary wild places left in the City. It used to be full of fox, skunk, deer. Now it’s full of mountain bikes and people talking loudly on cell phones. Bike paths? Bocce Courts? These can go anywhere in Madison. Now and then a homeless, almost invariably harmless person makes a small camp here. They are less noxious than the affluent citizens who stumble on this place, long revered by locals, who don’t have a clue about the value...

Hagan Carter's review saying this isn't a city park, is WRONG. This IS owned by the City of Madison. But entry is a narrow drive along Milwaukee st. Basically from the Amazon to west is an empty private lot, then the Park access driveway in trees just before the small house. One can look it up on the city property GIS map.
