âď¸âď¸âď¸âď¸âď¸ Feels Like Family at Rural King
Every time I walk into Rural King in Madisonville KY, Iâm reminded why itâs my go-to store. The employees are never anything but kind, helpful, and patient. Whether you need assistance or just a smile, theyâre ready to meet you with bothâand free popcorn, which is a charming touch that makes customers feel truly welcome while they shop.
The store itself is always clean, organized, and impressively stocked. Iâve found items here that I couldnât locate anywhere else. From gardening supplies to home care essentials, they seem to carry everything I needâand more.
Their team works together with such consistency and kindness, it wouldnât feel right to single anyone out. Every employee contributes to the welcoming atmosphere, and thatâs what makes Rural King feel like family. Theyâre the backbone of the business, and it shows.
Porch Light Reflection Tonight as I wheeled soil and lime under the quiet glow of my front porch, I thought about the simple joy of being helped by people who treat you like family. At Rural King, kindness isnât a transactionâitâs the rhythm of the place. Whether Iâm lifting bags with tired hands or asking for help in a dusty aisle, I never leave feeling invisible. That front porch light reminds me: we donât have to be grand to be good. Sometimes warmth, patience, and a little popcorn are what light the way.

The majority of the employees are young kids and while I do understand that everyone has to start somewhere with a job, a lot of them could be much better coached, taught, and/or mentored on customer service and work ethic.
My wife and I both, on more than one occasion, have made orders for pick-up to this store. During the process, we have both verified through the website and via a phone call that the products we have ordered were available at the store. After ordering, we receive confirmation emails followed by emails stating the items arenât available after the storeâs employees have responded back through their system that they our out of the products... I have taken it upon myself to go into the store to verify and after walking around the entire store for times varying from 5 minutes to 20 minutes, I find the product myself EVERY SINGLE TIME.
The only thing that keeps me coming back is how convenient the store is in regards to the proximity of it from my home.
If it wasnât so close, Iâd avoid it and order what I need online instead from...
Read moreVery poor customer service. Checked online first to see if the 55 gallon metal trash barrel was available(it was). Then called customer service to verify and make 100% sure they had it before wasting an hour of my time and around $20 in gas. They assured me they had the item. Upon arrival I didn't see any outside, so went in to ask.The 2nd lady at the counter took 5 seconds to verify over the radio that they didn't have any, but the lady on the phone call couldn't have taken the same 5 seconds to verify? They haven't had any in weeks... Not only did it happen at the Madisonville,KY store today, it happened at the Owensboro,KY store a few weeks back. Just awful lazy customer service. Buyers beware! They're not willing to spend 5 seconds of their time over the phone so I won't be spending a dime there ever...
