I went into the Hope Chest, close to closing, on March 30th and saw this beautiful, huge 36" African drum. It was shaped like a symphony drum with a wrought iron cradle. I found an 18" one just like it with no cradle for $350 on eBay. The employees told me they just got the drum in. I bought The drum for $75, but needed to pick it up after work the next day as the store was closing and I had my car. I had to fill out paperwork they kept in a binder for people who need to pick up items at a later date. The lady who helped me didn't know how to fill out the paperwork, so she had a few people helping. They made sure there wasn't already paper work in there from some one else that might have bought the drum, nope all is good. They wanted to give me the drum sticks, but they couldn't find them, so they made some phone calls. Bingo, they were on the top shelf in the back. When I arrived the next day I found the drum was gone. After asking around, they told me they sold the drums again. Talk went around, "nobody put a sold sign on the drum." Everybody was shrugging their shoulders. sorry there's nothing we can or could do about it. My thought was since the drum was gone, good luck getting it back. So I needed to get my money back. They told me they need the sticks back before I could get a refund. Fine whatever I wasn't happy and I left without making a scene. The more I thought about the situation, I thought, those are my drumsticks. The store is the one that sold my property. Why do I have to bring them back. Well it was awhile before I came back. I went in and asked for Breana the manager. She walked up and I told her I'm here to get my refund for the drum that The store sold after I bought it. The first words out of her were, " You know we have a 5 day return policy." Ok, I will have to say, a few choice words flew out of my mouth that I regret but, yes there's a but, I couldn't believe she said that. So after a short conversation she went in the back to talk to, I believe his name was Jeff or Joe, one of those. Breana came back to tell me we need the sticks back. I told her, it was my drum and the sticks were mine. You sold MY drum. She said the drums were already sold when You bought them. WOW, REALLY? Now I can't tell you how much that ticked me off. Their story just did a 180. Up till that point, all the evidence and what was told to me was the other way around. They sold my drums. Nobody said anything when I bought the drums. Phone calls were made to find the sticks, nothing was said. They told me they just got the drum in. There was no other paperwork in their binder that stated they were bought and were going to be picked up but mine. I had the sticks. She continued to now tell me they were sold to a regular customer mer, You know, unlike the irregular customers like me. Hmmm, I thought, Maybe that's why the drum is in their possession and not mine. She continued, Yeah they are in here 3 or 4 times a day. So I said, well let's look at the paper work and when they bought it compared with my receipt. She said we don't keep that kind of record and the registers aren't computers, while she takes my recept and starts plugging the numbers into the register. Humm?! Wait it gets better. If I kept the sticks they could refund me $50 and charge me $25 for sticks that they would sell for $5 any other day or maybe it's just to their regulars that get that price. Now I'm feeling they are charging me punitive damages for being upset that they sold my drums. I wonder where that $25 is going. Do you think it went to the person that got the drum or did they just get $100. Again punitive because the other people paid $75 and did it knowing the sticks were not there. I am total dropped jawed how I was treated when it was all their mistake. The only mistake I made was walking through their doors. Itâs crazy how a store that does such Good can treat a customer that...
Read moreI went here Nov 5th with a truck load of good useable clothes and household items. I called ahead to be sure they were taking donations. Yes she said until 3pm. I drove over there from a neighborong city not in Manteca. When I pulled up the gate was closed the man working inside said closed! I said I called 30 min ago. Itâs only one and they told me until 3. He said well since you yelled at me Iâm not taking your stuff and he went inside and shut door. I went in and spoke to manager a large blonde haired woman and told her my story. I live out of town. Iâm 70 years old. I loaded it all myself for you to help cancer patients. Thing is the same thing happened on Oct 24 itâs my second time trying to donate. And wasting my gas. She treated me horrible. These people cannot possibly be doing Gods work. There should be an investigation into this place. They are not kind people and.the way they treated a Sr Citizen was unforgivable. I drove it down to Goodwill Store. They were kind and helped me unload it. I will never go back to hope chest. Horrible people. Something funny is going on there. It didnât come se to...
Read moreI donate quality items to this business several times a year. My granddaughter wanted to go thrifting yesterday so we stopped in. She bought a bag full of clothes & shoes. My understanding was that you could not try on the clothes there since Covid, so when we got home, she tried on her items & one pair of jeans were too small and one of the shirts had moth holes in it. I went back today to exchange, not to try to get any money back, just to exchange for an item that would work. I was told that they could not exchange even with the tag still on. The manager would not even come out & talk with me. What good is a manager if they donât do their job? Also the day of the purchase we asked to use the restroom and instead of saying we donât let our paying customers use our restroom. They lied and said They had no restroom. Just tell the truth and be fair about items that you get for free. Regretting I ever helped this...
