Planet Fitness — Local services in Mantua Township

Here to write my experience to warn those with new year resolutions to pick literally any other gym in the area. This happened almost five years ago, I still have not forgotten, and I will continue to leave reviews on how this gym scammed me until the day I die. I signed up for this gym on a new years deal they had which had no cancellation fees for the year king membership which was their big advertisement point. However, I decided to upgrade my membership (pay them more money a month) so that I could bring a guest with me. At the time of upgrade, I told the employee working that I would be ending my membership in August as I was leaving for college and double checked there would be no issues with that when I upgraded my membership. They said no (I desperately wish I had written down their name). When I stopped by to end my membership before leaving, they would not let me cancel without charging me $60 dollars to cancel. I explained to them that the advertised there would be no cancellation fees and they said that did not apply to the upgraded membership (pay more money to go there and pay more money to cancel I guess). I then explained that I asked the staff member if there would be any issue in cancelling this membership in August when I left for school and they assured me there would not be. To be honest this employee was probably also in highschool at the time and didn’t understand their policies. But now I am out $60 and still keep the receipt from this transaction as proof in case Planet Fitness ever wants to do the right thing and refund me or compensate me in some way for this cancellation charge. Until then, I recommend Kennedy Fitness in the area and send everyone I know over to Mullica Hill to their gym.

Also, this issue is not specific to me because if you look at any of the negative reviews it is issues with cancellation, charging accounts after cancellations, or other money hungry type illegal behavior of this...

this Is not my home gym, however I am in this area quite often so I come here for convenience. I have had a few problems here.

I was berated for not having my black card with me. The girl who looks like Pennsyltucky from OITNB gave me a lecture that If she is at the desk and I don’t have my card, I will be denied entry. I told her she can look at my ID and call my home gym to verify, she responded with “that is not my job”

Same girl mentioned above would not let me use the hydrobed because I didn’t have the black card. They have a sign in computer that you have to scan your card to use the bed for, but again, this can be overridden by a staff member, but she refused to do so.

I was in the free weight section using a decline bench and free weights when I was approached by a staff member telling me to take the bench back to the abs section. I told him I never got the bench from the abs section, he told me to place it against the mirror behind the smith machines. Other planet fitnesses have this style bench in the free weight section. This gym has something against it. I understand placing the weights where they belong, but I shouldn’t have to drag YOUR equipment across the gym when you have staff that is paid to do so. I guess that “isn’t your job” either.

I told the manager that I didn’t appreciate the attitude of the staff and I was reminded that there are other planet fitnesses I can go to. I’ll do just that, and I’ll encourage others to do the same. Also, I feel that since you denied me the privileges I pay for monthly, you should give me my 19.99 since I can’t get...

They have good machines, good setup, nice location, staff pleasant. But the place is not climate controlled well, no air circulation, humid, smelly, and sweaty place, machines aren't kept up, entire place is not kept up, employees dont work generally. They sit around and talk trying to court each other. Its a childlike and irresponsible approach to running a business. The previous manager whom was here until spring 2022, was very detail oriented, place was super cool, airy, breezy, ventilated, no smells, the mgr would walk around and clean as would all employees, they didnt sit around and yap like in high school. Everything stinks and is hot, humid, sweaty and uncomfortable now. I cant get a good workout in due to all this grossness. To be honest, most recently, I noticed some bites on me just after I left here from the black card area recently. They need to wash the hydro covers, have bottles that work to clean, clean additionally, treadmills aren't well maintained they have rusted USB ports, shakiness so your knees get messed up, bad motors that vibrate, dirty sweat droppings from profuse sweating thats out of control.
