I have two Adcom 5802 amps and I bought a third one used so I could bring my system up to a 7.2 system. Well it did not run very long, it would blow the two rail fuses on the left side of the power board. I brought it into the only repair shop I could find in the Minneapolis Minnesota area that would take a look at it, because most repair shops said no. They charged me $110.00 and had the amp for three weeks then called me to pick it up. They told me it had obsolete transisters and had multiple circuit problems, so that was the end of that. I serched the internet, I finally found EBC electronics which said they could repair it. This place is very busy, and I can see why, there doing repairs that no one else will even consider. His name is Paul, he has a waiting list on his sight, so I waited and when that date came I jump on his sight first thing and Paul gave me a work order repair number and I sent it to him. He explained some one in the past had put or installed un-balanced MOSFET transisters in it which did all kinds of damage to it. Well this repair was going to take some time because Paul had to replace all the 16 MOSFET's on the left channel board and they all have to be matched with each other. He also did some other repairs and replaced the small caps on the left and right sound boards. You have to remember this Adcom 5802 is 20 plus years old, parts are had to come by. Paul found all the parts it needed, and tested it for weeks before he was satisfied with it. Well, I got the amp back, it runs better and cooler than the other two Adcom 5802 I bought new. So don't let some guy or some repair shop dstroy your dreams, if you have something you really love and don't feel like tossing it, send it to Paul at EBC electronics. Believe me, If it can be repaired in any way, Paul will get the job done. Now you have to remember, repairing old, or very old things that are as complicated with match circuits like my amp was, things take time, but let me tell you, it was much worth the wait. This amp sounds great, God only knows where it would be if it was not for Paul. Give him a try, you will have to wait because that is the first thing you will see when you get on his sight, Paul will give you a date when he is receiving new repairs again, and when that time comes I strongly suggest you jump at it, for it fills up fast. Don't go without, get...
Read moreI don't usually write reviews, but I have to let people know about Paul at EBC. I have a Sunfire True EQ Solitaire 12. It is an incredible sub that I've had for 15 years. Last week I got no sound from the sub. I went on a couple of AV forums and learned that EBC was a highly recommended repair shop. I also checked with an authorized Sunfire repair location in Illinois. The place in Illinois wanted $300-320 and I would have had to ship the sub to them. I would have been looking at roughly $400 and the earliest they could have returned it was 3-5 weeks. EBC is located 3.5 hours from my house so I drove to NJ and dropped the sub off with Paul. Paul offered to take a look at it and see if he could fix it that day to prevent me from having to drive back in a week or two. I killed a couple of hours and got a bite to eat. Paul contacted me and said he had fixed the sub and it was ready for pickup. He had to replace the input board, which had gone bad. He also chose to replace a couple of electrolytic capacitors in the power supply because he said that they have a tendency to have issues over time. Here's the best part, he only charged me $225! I offered him an extra $50 due to the time and money that he saved me, but he refused to accept it. Where in the heck are you going to find service like that in this...
Read moreI've had an HGS-15 Velodyne sub woofer for over 20 years. It was repaired once by Velodyne a number of years back. It was generating a loud "thumping" sound, often times with no input. Velodyne repaired the plate amplifier. The unit worked for a couple of years then stopped altogether. I replaced a fuse and then the unit went into a "protection" mode, no sound at all. I sent the plate amp to EBC after exchanging e-mails with them. I followed the status of the repair on their web site. The repair took a little while, but I am thrilled with the result. The sub has worked flawlessly since the repair was done, a little over a year ago. All functionality was restored and the sound of my system is wonderful. For music, having at least another octave of response at the low end is terrific. For the home theater experience the Velodyne can literally shake the furniture. I had thought I would have to discard the sub. Instead it is working as good as new. And, the cost of repair was less than I was charged by Velodyne. I can't recommend the service EBC provides enough. My experience with them...
