Recapping my experience with this company...
Moved into a house with a standalone PTAC heating/air conditioning unit for maintaining temp in a sunroom that has no ductwork (the kind you see in a hotel room). From the time we moved in, the unit was not blowing any warm air. Tech came out from Spurk, and from the moment he looked at the unit, I could tell he was not familiar with it. He spent about an hour troubleshooting, and his final diagnosis was it was a faulty heating element, although he was not 100% certain. He pointed out several areas on the part that appeared to be 'burnt out'. He called the office and the approx cost for replacing the part and labor was approx. $400-500. Per the age of the unit (approx 10 years), he advised that I consider replacing it. Quote for replacing the entire unit was $2400. I paid $219 for the service call ($79 dispatch fee + $140 'normal hours troubleshooting level 3' up to 60 min fee.
I ended up finding a brand new heating element online for $80. Took about 15 mins and replaced the defective part myself. Very simple and straightforward (can only go in a certain way, no real way to mess it up). Turned on the unit, still blowing cold air.
I already had another appointment scheduled with Spurk for a yearly furnace check up. Same tech showed upā¦after the furnace check, I mentioned that I had replaced the heating element in the PTAC unit and was still not getting hot air blowing out. He looked at it again, this time concluding that it was most likely the control board that was bad. He also confirmed the heating element that I installed was installed correctly. He advised me to reach out to Dan Dillman (sales manager), as in these situations in the past when their diagnosis have been incorrect, they will refund the troubleshooting fee. I reached out to Dan, and he said because the tech had not installed the heating element, he could not refund any of the service/troubleshooting fees.
I ended up reaching out to a different company in the area who does similar work. I did not mention that anyone else had looked at it or any work had been done. Took the tech about 15 mins to determine that it was a bad control board (first thing he looked at). His quote for a replacement unit and labor came in at $1650 (same exact replacement unit), $750 less than Spurk.
I was left very unsatisfied with Spurk. From what I gather they seem new to this area, so you would think they would work with me to make it right. I was willing to eat the $79 service fee and $80 cost for the replacement part, but felt they should have refunded me the $140 troubleshooting fee since they did not correctly identify all of the issues. Between ineffective troubleshooting and ridiculously high markups/overpriced work, I would not...
Ā Ā Ā Read morePERFECT customer service. Not good. Not great. PERFECT. Extra important since this is a work-from-home house.
Top to bottom Service: I called back Spurk HVAC in the hottest week in July because my cheap townhouse 6-year old AC compressor thingy popped (Maronda Homes, š«µš» YOU SUCK!) , I got pitched on-site and signed up for a twice-per-year subscription that actually made financial sense. Evan wasnāt pushy about it it. Just gave me a good look of āman, itās honestly worth it just because we know you are coming back to us and the perks help.ā
Not a scam, just a little up front for preferred customer perks. SUBSCRIPTION THAT IS ACTUALLY WORTH IT. I get 2 texts and 2 calls per year (from someone super nice like Alexis) just to see if Iām ready for a check up in the off season.
Sooooo, I was being cheap and skipped my fall appointment when the called for follow up (a real person with real human feelings calls you. Itās WILD! š ššš„µš„¶). Wake up today to a house at 60 degrees, so I start blasting (the heat). Nothing happens and I realize I gotta call in with my tail between my legs and ask for help the coldest week of the year.
Spurkās CS team answers on the second ring, answering the phone like Iām an old friend, see that I missed an upkeep visit and then asked their tech Charlie if he could swing by between appointments.
Charlie shows up in line THREE HOURS, I warned him them that I have an English Mastiff (Bazooka) At home so I think Charlie came even earlier just to say hi to my dog. Nicest guy ever.
Great guy, shows up, little chit chat about his dad raising Great Danes, pets my pup and got me back up and running in NO TIME.
No giant āextra rushā service bill. No grouchy, overworked attitude. No impression the techs are being taken advantage of their hard work (I hope they can get some $$$ or perks for positive customer reviews).
This is truly an awesome company. I mean that. Itās so easy to get signed up for a stupid subscription just because some company wants future cash flows now, versus an actual preferred customer program that just rewards you for loyalty and seems to put money into their people.
Thank all of you for the help today. It could have been a much harder day working...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreSpurk HVAC came highly recommended from a friend who is a realtor. After receiving over 7 estimates, Spurk came in with the lowest bid, but most importantly, they showed a genuine concern for what was best for me and my family. Therefore, we came to an agreement for them to install a new traditional HVAC system on my first floor, and the Mitsubishi ductless heating and cooling system on my second floor.
During the installing, the Spurk team arrived on-time every morning. If they ran into issues with traffic, they made sure to call me and let me know they were running late. Everyone was super respectful and made sure to keep the inside of my home clean. For the first time, I felt I could trust a contractor to be in my home alone as they proved themselves to be trustworthy.
I am excited to report that Jason and the Spurk team exceeded my expectations. After the installation, my family is enjoying a comfortable home and we are no longer dreading the cold winter months. The installation of the two systems are working great. As always, there were a couple of unexpected challenges, however, Jason and the team went above and beyond to tackle them. They even left my basement looking better than it did when they started. I could not be more pleased. I'm now looking forward to partnering with them to maintain my two systems.
I HIGHLY recommend Spurk HVAC for your HVAC needs. Jason and his team are more than fair, respectable, honest, and trustworthy. Finally, When I was looking for estimates on a HVAC system, a number of people recommended contractors they were currently working with. Needless to say, three of the people ran into issues with their contractors and are no longer using them. You best believe I gave them Spurk HVAC's information because I know he will...
