Big Lots — Local services in Martinsburg

BL is just like a Dollarstore, overpriced like them too. One star because you don't "save lots" and there were no price tags on just about everything with no price marked on its shelf. The bit i looked at with prices clearly marked was atleast a dollar to several dollars more then youd pay at Walmart. Other things were even several dollars more then youd pay at Target! Back in the day BL was store returns, slightly damaged goods, closeouts, buyouts etc so you could sometimes luck out on a great deal. Im sure a marketing company who figured out people will pay more if they feel like they're in a store that offers lowest prices. They seem to have gone the route of Burlington coats and changed to mostly offer only one company or companies theyre exclusively selling on most of the shelves. Its no longer an assortment of random brands and products with many new things you've never seen or heard of, which used to make it fun, like Ollies. The xmas decor was all from one brand, I remember when it was sometimes only one or a few of the same product and you had to look thru to see what might be there. They got rid of any reason it used to be worth even going here. Store was clean and orderly and there were many sales...

Shocking this place went bankrupt when they literally kick customers out. We apparently were shopping for too long. Our car broke down and we were waiting for it to be fixed at the nearby shop. Because it is over 100 degrees outside, we decided to pop into big lots to not die in the heat. We were there for 20 minutes when an associate approached us and said we were welcome to check out with our purchases but we could no longer remain in the store without buying something. I guess when you were nearly out of business, you lose all empathy and human kindness. Good to know. I recommend NOT joining them on their so called “comeback”. They will work with you on your monthly payments to your dates for your payments. Must provide a credit or debit card for payments to be taken according to your payment plan.
