My wife and I have been looking to buy kayaks for a while now. We found Blue Mountain Outfitters because initially thought we wanted a Liquid Logic Kayak and they are one of the few places near us that has this type of boat.
Because we were a few hours away, I called the store first to make sure the staff were available and had time to help us which they assured us they did.
As soon as we arrived we are immediately greeted by the staff and started to talk about kayaks.
Here are some fun facts about our experience.
The staff are super knowledgeable and friendly.
Unless you 100 percent know the boat you want, give yourself a few hours at the store. Be open minded and patient.
They let us sit in a number of different kayaks, ask a ton of questions and gave us plenty of time to discuss on our own.
This is a zero pressure experience! We explained what we were hoping to accomplish and we were presented with many options. Ultimately it is a personal choice as to what kayak fits the best, is within your budget etc.
It just so happened the boat we were interested in they also had as a rental. They kindly offered us a chance to take the kayak out for a test ride. This is a small drive off site and it was already getting late in the day, so it was really awesome that we got this opportunity. It was also perfect because we had not actually had this boat in the water before.
So now we knew the kayaks we wanted but still had to choose paddles, life jackets, and figure out how to get these 12 foot kayaks (2) home.
Blue Mountain Outfitters presented different options of how we could fasten the kayaks to the roof for travel. Just in case you missed it earlier, this is a zero pressure experience. We discussed different products at different price points and found a brand that we were comfortable with. It wasn't the most expensive but wasn't the cheapest either.
Blue Mountain Outfitters installed the cross bars and showed us how to do this on our own. We fastened one of the kayaks together and the second kayak we put on ourselves and then had the staff check to ensure we did it right.
We made it home safely with the kayaks still securely attached to the roof.
Highly highly recommend Blue Mountain Outfitters to anyone who wants to buy a kayak. Remember, we are new too kayaking and they helped us every...
Read moreWe just loved our experience with Blue Mountain Outfitters, there was this lovely competent calm in their store, this sense that all things water related to kayaks and canoes know they have a space in this gorgeous little historic gem located in Marysville. The store itself is carefully curated with well known brands of boats, anything you could need on your water adventure can be found within the walls. The outdoor facility for our boating adventure was the cleanest I’d ever seen- shuttle service was prompt and friendly, the equipment was great. We were provided with good information to make sound choices of routes based on goals and weather. We were provided with a map and a card for pickup when we arrived at the pickup site. This made for one of the easiest river trips I had in the area without having to juggle drivers and wrestle with our own boats. They have boats to rent, boats to buy, repair service, and it’s just one lovely small business outfitter. I would highly recommend using these outfitters on an adventure in your future - we were so glad we did, looking to book again in maybe 6 weeks. Even if you don’t do rivers but family members do this is a great place to pick up gift cards or shop- the eye candy selection of boats is like finding the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow in this little emporium of small water craft. One of the coolest moments of our trip was at pickup when Mark demonstrated how to make a truckers hitch; he took the time to show and explain to my son what he was doing, and then had him practice it. These are the details that make one continue to come back, kind and patient people, helpful and willing to share their knowledge with those listening. Thank you for an amazing day...
Read moreFirst experience and the last.
Called and asked if we could use our canoe trip vouchers for items in the store instead and we were told yes, we could. When we get there the lady acted like she had no such conversation but would "honor" it. You could tell she wasn't happy about it but hey, it was from a raffle we had won.
I didn't really calculate the extras we ended up getting beyond our voucher money at the moment (shame on me) and you couldn't read her chicken scratch writing at all. Afterwards we realized she jipped us out of $20 worth of our voucher money.
We called and asked about it and she basically said , nope! I did what I could....so it's obvious, she did it on purpose lucking out on the fact we didn't catch it in the moment face to face (shame on me).
Never again!, That is NOT how you conduct business and they are clearly lacking ethics.
There stuff is over priced. Not all of it to be fair but mostly.
The skinny guy there with the beard has a serious drinking problem. He was nice but was totally lit to the point I think I got a buzz off his breath just talking to him 😵💫
If time and inflation is the issue?..either don't offer the vouchers to be won at raffles, put expiration dates on them or something to cover yourself for cases like this. Don't screw the people trying to give you business. It's not about $20. For me, it's...
