Update: the owner Max reached out to me and apologized for Janelle’s demeanor and explained the reason for delay. He, however, did not address why I was charged a rush fee.

I decided to go to Steffan’s to get my engagement ring and two wedding bands soldered together after receiving multiple recommendations due to their excellency in jewelry as well as their customer service. I am overall extremely happy with the work done to my rings. They look amazing. What I am less than impressed with is the customer service and lack of integrity I received from the sale associate Janelle. I went in expecting a two week turnaround time based on the below Facebook conversation I had with Steffan’s. I even asked if an appointment was required and per their below response, one was not. When I met with Janelle she told me the jeweler was on vacation and they had a 3-4 week turnaround time and then gave me a hard time about how I should’ve made an appointment. I then referenced my Facebook message and her less than polite response to me was “the jeweler is a human too and deserves time off, we can have it done in the two week window for a $50 rush fee.” She then told me it would be done by April 24th. I was very insulted by her comment as I never once said the jeweler didn’t deserve time off. My husband just got back from a 6 month deployment, I’m well aware people need a break! I then paid the $50 as I am returning to an area that doesn’t have a jeweler and desperately wanted my rings soldered. I awaited a call on the 24th that my rings were done, it never came. I called on the 25th and Janelle told me it would be done on the 26th. As unfair as I feel the rush fee was based on the below conversation I had, I do think Steffan’s does exceptional work. This was my first visit to Steffan's Jewelers and it will definitely not be my last, all thanks to their associate Max. I had four watches that needed batteries replaced and I had contacted a corporate chain of jewelry stores that shall remain nameless that has a location in my town. I was informed that each watch would have to be sent out to replace the battery and to seal the back and it could take up to 4 weeks to get my watches back and it was going to cost $85 a watch! My girlfriend lives in McHenry and she raved about the service at Steffan's she has received in the past so I decided to drive the 40 minutes to Steffan's and I couldn't be happier. I came in with these 4 watch boxes and the women working there were probably wondering what I was doing with them and Max came right up to me and asked how he could help. I explained that I needed batteries for all 4 watches and he took them all in back and was done in less then 15 minutes and there was not a scratch on a single watch and they were only $15 a watch. So getting 4 watch batteries installed in my watches at Steffan's was still $25 less than the big chain jeweler was going to rip me off for one watch! My regular watches I would not hesitate to take to the mall kiosk but these watches are nicer and my dress watches, but after yesterday, all my watches and any jewelry I have that may need anything or next time I am in the mood to buy jewelry, I am going to Steffan's. Best experience ever!!! My husband and I came to "Steffan's Jewelers" about 8 months ago. We were looking for an engagement ring setting and a wedding band for me. The staff in the store was very friendly. We bought for me a beautiful bridal set from "Gabriel and Co" - engagement ring setting and a wedding band. I get lots of compliments so does my husband on how well we did and how beautiful my rings are! All our inquiries and concerns were addressed in a timely manner. My ring size is very small but even with special order we were able to get it right and on time! After such positive experience, we bought for my husband a wedding band too at "Steffan's Jewelers". And he was very pleased with how everything went and his wedding band choice.

He made it all happen for us - the selection of choices offered for me and my husband to choose from, and friendly encounter, and patience while we were looking for what will work best for us. We are so grateful that Max was most helpful to us in order to make us happy and to deliver the desirable result, for pleasant experience and wonderful customer service! We just came back from our honeymoon and Max gave us helpful and valuable advise also on the jewelry and expensive watch that we bought overseas. Thank you again, Max!
