I met with Matthew J. Bengard, MD, today at 2:30 PM, and during the appointment, he made several inappropriate assumptions. He said, "In my opinion, you need medications," and "You should be better by now; this is unusual and rare." He also made an unprofessional judgment based solely on my charts, saying, "In my opinion, you should just be on medications for mental health issues."
Dr. Bengard didn't even give me the opportunity to ask questions during the preoperative appointment; he kept interrupting and shushing me. I was hit by a car head-on and struggled to stay awake for months afterward. His lack of empathy was overwhelming, and it felt like he was minimizing and dismissing everything I’ve gone through. Generalizing my situation as if it were the same as everyone else's is inappropriate, especially since he doesn't even know me.
Another concerning issue, which may be a HIPAA violation, is that the door for medical examination was left wide open during our conversation. I told him " Why is the door Open? Don't I get privacy for these personal conversations?" He said " no, it's my personal policy!" I asked someone at the desk if that was normal, and they said it wasn't. Additionally, when I calmly tried to ask questions and clarify things, he kept saying, "You're arguing," and threatened to end the appointment by saying, "If you're going to argue, we can stop here." His attitude was dismissive, assuming, and unwilling to meet me where I was.
I also sensed racial bias. As a brown American, I found it offensive that the office door was left open while we discussed private and personal information. Furthermore, the assistant assumed I needed a translator without even addressing me first, then made an inappropriate joke about it. For the record, I was born and raised in America.
What’s even more troubling is that recent reviews about this doctor reveal similar complaints. I don't appreciate how I was treated, how I was spoken to, or how I was handled overall. I will be filing a formal complaint through all available channels. The lack of privacy, understanding, and willingness to listen to patients is unacceptable. I do not recommend this doctor, as my experience with him showed a clear lack of care for...
Read moreHorrible place, it was like they didn't even have the CT scans and MRIs from 2019 up to 2024. Year prior the jerks at Touchstone BS specialist, Dr. Castleberry (Dr. Sills isn't any better) tried to burn up my sciatic nerve for the swollen right hip bursa. Also found tears in the left knee patellar tendon, 14 months after I was told it was only a sprain, by Dr. Winters at Stewart Meadows. Touchstone told me it was impossible for the right hip bursa to be swollen after five years, had to beg for an MRI so they wouldn't burn up my sciatic nerve. I told Dr. Ho train that an Xray wouldn't show anything, besides hip narrowing and arthritis. Dr. Winters had already done that to me at Providence 3 years previously and two months later it was found leaking at the ER. SO OR Orthopedics had me calling Medford Radiology to set up the aspiration test, when they had sent the order to Providence. I didn't know they weren't addressing the bursa at all, they were going off of the three year old CT scan from the ER. The one Dr. Winters told me that it was impossible for my hip to be leaking. When the aspiration test was finally set up, the female technician at Providence asked, "why didn't they at least CT your right hip?". I said good question, I told them a xray wouldn't show anything. So they end up pulling out all of the fluid that they could out of the inner hip joint. It was an extremely long neele and extremly painful. Some how with that SO OR Orthopedics ended up messing up the test. The female nurse thought switching to Asante for the test would make a difference. But she refused to have any imaging ordered ahead of time, to see if any fluid came back after making the joint even more painful. They even refused to use the MRI machine that they advertise while you wait forever to talk to them. Ended up getting Cellulitis in November again in my right leg and five days later it was in both legs. Still don't think it's fully cleared up. But, you can't trust the doctors or their staff. Guess the only way to get help now days is grow 20,000 illegal marijuana plants and then you'll will get all the help you, just pay a small fine and spend no...
Read moreThe very first words to me from Dr. Jeffrey Jancuska at Southern Oregon Orthopedics in Medford OR were: Why are you here if your knee injury happened only 11 days ago? I was stunned by his question. I had injured my knee hiking 11 days prior and I was still in a lot of pain, so much pain that I was concerned as the pain was increasing daily even though I was using the RICE protocol. I had never experienced a knee injury before and had no reference other than Google searches, which stated if there is no improvement after three days to seek out help from a doctor. That was my intent and what I told the doctor, to find out what my injury was. My knee pain was getting worse daily and I needed a professional opinion. Dr. Jancuska was very dismissive and rude frankly. At one point he asked me how I got there today? I said I drove as it was my left knee that was injured, again he was dismissive with the lift of an eyebrow. I received 3 ex-ray views from the staff. He only looked at one of the views and said I had a meniscus tear, he explained nothing to me. He gave me no information as to the size of the tear or what I was dealing with. He smugly leaned back into his chair and said it would heal on its own within 3 months and if it didn't then come back and we'll do an MRI. That I did not need surgery. Surgery?? who was talking about surgery?? I certainly wasn't. Is that his filter? He only gives his time and attention to people who qualify for surgery? Again, I was stunned. This doctor has got to be the most unhelpful doctor I have ever gone to in my 65 years. The size of his ego could fill the room. In summary, if my knee doesn't get better I will NOT be going back to this guy, for anything! I cannot believe that Asante has such a doctor on staff. Perhaps this explains why I was able to get an appointment in a matter of days. He had lot's of openings....
