We went to take our kids horseback riding on vacation. We have a 15, 13 and 4 year old. Upon arrival we saw multiple horses available. It was not crowded. We had a small group ahead of us that just arrived at the same time we did. When we came to the window, the young lady was very nasty. She asked us how many we told her three, she immediately started saying oh he canât ride I corrected her and said she is a girl not a boy (which you can clearly see by the way she looks and all the pink she had on)! When asked her age I told her she is 4. She then proceeded to say well I donât have any horses available. I said really I see plenty of horses available. She said they were reserved. Which was a lie!! A couple pulled up behind us and the young lady asked how many they said two and she said ok and proceeded to give them paperwork and set them up. They did not have a reservation!! They just walked up! Mind you we were there way before them and she just told us she didnât have any horses available. We only needed two adult horses and one pony. But apparently if you are black you canât ride! There was a lot of discrimination at this place and itâs very sad. If I could leave no stars if I could.âââUPDATE TO RESPONSE FROM OWNER 6/16/21: I suggest you go back and read from âThey just walked upâ. They did not have a reservation! Or better yet just re-read the entire review! Of course you will try to show you weâre booked, that day has already been completed! You werenât there when the lady at the window was very rude! She asked us how many and started to get papers together, stated she only had two horses and one pony available. We said thatâs fine we would only let the kids ride and the three adults wouldnât ride but one adult would walk with the trail with the youngest. She then decided to say we donât have any available. I stated well you just said you had two adults and one pony. She then rolled her eyes and said itâs not going to work. Iâm not sure why she said that and I donât remember her name. But judging by your response it was probably you. Why ask and proceed to go through the process if you already knew you had everything booked! The people after us had no reservation! We asked them if they did, and they said no! I understand that the horses need a break but that was not the problem. I would not have left a long review if I didnât feel like we were being treated fairly and we were not! Maybe get a worker who is more personable and doesnât show signs of discrimination! Also a previous group was there before we arrived and they also had an issue! I also suggest some customer care training courses so no one else ever goes through this at your farm!! Have a...
Read moreI had an extremely disappointing experience at Shelby Farms Stables. From the moment we arrived, Megan, who was at the front desk, was dismissive and rude. There was absolutely no effort on her part to explain any of the rules or what the ride would entail. It wasnât until we were about to start that we discovered this was a controlled ride meant primarily for children and complete beginners. As experienced riders looking for a true trail experience, this was not what we had in mind.
When we shared our concerns, hoping to find a solution, Megan showed no empathy or willingness to help. She didnât offer any alternatives, discounts, or even a basic level of customer service. Instead, her attitude turned even more unpleasant, making it clear that she had no interest in addressing our dissatisfaction. Eventually, we decided it wasnât worth the time or money to proceed, especially under such disappointing circumstances. Shockingly, even though we never actually got on the trail, we were denied any kind of refund or partial refund.
In short, Shelby Farms Stables not only misrepresents its services but also fails to provide even a basic level of customer care. I would not recommend this place to anyone looking for a respectful, enjoyable horseback riding experience. Save your time and money and...
Read moreShelby Farms Stables was a great experience! Highly recommend. The check-in process was smooth & we didnât have to wait long to get going on the trail ride.
Our hosts were Megan & Kenzie, both extremely kind & hospitable. Would love to have them lead any future tours we might have, again. Megan was knowledgeable about all the horses on the trail ride & it was fun hearing about each horseâs history. She engaged well, had lots to talk about, & answered all my questions thoroughly.
Both Megan & Kenzie were helpful with reminders for any new riders, âheels down, toes upâ, & âlean backâ.
Great experience & environment. It was wonderful to hear that the horses are well taken care of & are able to roam free (not pinned up all day every day).
Bob was a wonderful addition. IYKYK.
Thank you Shelby Farms Stables, Megan, Kenzie, Captain, Oreo, & other volunteers for providing a fun, safe, & enjoyable hour for my...
