I have used this smog station numerous times over the past years. Yesterday, I went to smog my 2004 Porsche 911 with their $37.75 coupon that I printed from their website. The owner told me it would be $88.25. I asked why? He told me because it was a Porsche and it was more complicated. I asked how was it more complicated? At this point he became highly irate and began quizzing me on the physical location of emissions relaxed components of the car. “Do you know where the O2 sensor is?” “Do you know where the SAI is?” “Do you I know where the ECU is?” As if me knowing those location somehow validated the car’s complexity. Do most consumers know? It is not my job to know, rather his , and since every car is different, how does that justify complexity. It does not. As the conversation continued, his argument shifted from the complexity of the car to I should be accustomed to paying more to own and operate a Porsche, as everything on the car is more expensive. This is simply not true. Yes, there are times that it is more expensive, but not everything is. Tires on my the 911 are no more expensive then on my wife’s 2011 Infiniti G25. Does a Prius pay more for gas at the pump than a Porsche. No. Some things are equal and others are not. Another justification he presented was that he needs to do 15 smogs a day at $60 per to make a living. If that is the case, don’t advertise a price point (coupon) that is below your needs. That approach is called bait and switch. It became clear to me from his comments and statement that his business approach and the honoring of the coupon is if you own an older car, you is that you are not financially well off, and he may honor the coupon rate. If your drive up in an expensive car, you must be well off and accustomed to paying more, and he will charge you more. Maybe this is how he maintains his $60 per smog average . BTW, I told him from the onset that I would pay the $88.25. I just wanted to understand why I was being charged more for car that is fundamentally no different to smog than any other car. Plug the computer into the OBD II port, conduct a visual inspection and off we go . If you own a business and you cannot rationally and in a calm matter articulate why you are charging one person more than another, you are not running an ethical business in my opinion. So, after getting my catalytic converter monitor ready, which he kindly informed me was not, I completed the drive cycle, drove down to M&M smog, I paid the amount posted on the price sign of $50 plus certificate (no complicated Porsche premium fee) and that ended that day’s smog fiasco. If you are wondering, I did ask if the Porsche as more complicated to smog, and the technician’s response was no. Getting a car smog is not a service that varies from the procedural process from one station to another, unless is it pre 1999. The key different is price and customer service. So, Quality Smog Check failed on both fronts. Upon reading past reviews, I did notice that the owner does take the time to respond to negative reviews, and consistently places the blame on the customer. Maybe he never learning one of the fundamentals of business ownership...the customer is always right. I am looking forward to reading his rebuttal. Let’s see how an unethical business owner defends his unethical business practices. Lastly, if you want to use this business, show up with the coupon. If he honors it, great price for the work. If not, move on to M&M. Honest, transparent, ethical and no premium based on the make and model of the...
Read moreThis guy is a con artist! I brought my car in for smog and he writes $58 as the estimate and tells me, and also writes on the estimate, "Discount -20." The smog took over 2x longer than he said it would because he was letting the car sit after the smog was done without pushing the final button to issue the smog certificate to trick the system into thinking he spent more time inspecting the car in order to boost his score with the State of CA. (I used to run a repair shop that did smogs and this is a well known trick that the state should eliminate) This wouldn't be that big of a deal, except that when I told him I was now running late because he was "Running the clock" to the point that the computer was on a countdown to logging him out for inactivity, he tried to convince me that it was a countdown that he had to wait until the computer would let him finish the smog. (Absolute lie) Going back to the price, at the end of the smog, this guy writes a higher price on the top copy of the triplicate that he had already given me and had agreed to a lower price, and tells me I need to pay it because I signed the estimate, forgetting he had already given me a copy of what I had signed and the higher price wasn't on it. This guy yelled and screamed at me in front of other customers, telling me I had to pay the higher price, claiming the price was $78 before the discount, not $58 - the $20 discount as the estimate said. This guy has coupons advertised showing a price of $37.75 online! Long story short, this guy made such a scene that other customers left without having their car slogged because they didn't want to deal with this sleazy, slippery lier of a mechanic. Bring your car to this shop at your own risk, you have...
Read moreFar from "quality"... Smog servicer who helped me yelled in my face when I asked for a refund...
I came here in the morning to get a smog check done. Unfortunately; I was called about 3 hours later; being told that the smog servicer put my car info into their system wrong and I have to come in for a new test. This interrupted my already busy day, but I don't have a choice but to go back and get my test taken again. Over the phone; I requested a refund / discount since this is an inconvenience. The employee at the smog station then said he could do that for me
I go back and get my test retaken and the smog servicer gives me my revised paperwork, but mentions nothing about the refund we discussed. I then ask him for the refund and then he yells "REALLY!", shoves $5 in my hand, and then continues to yell at me as I leave the smog station. It's not out of the ordinary to give someone a refund when a business makes a mistake; the majority of business are happy to do so, but this guy absolutely lost it on me
I suggest not getting your car smogged here. You run the risk of having your test and/or information entered incorrectly; while simultaneously getting yelled at after asking for a refund when this business does their job wrong
EDIT: I didn't ask to have my tires checked; just asked for a smog check, and I didn't consume any of your beverages. Not sure why you're lying about that, but okay. Also yelling / throwing $5 at your customers isn't the most...
