As a parent I am writing this review so that others can be aware of what I witnessed. As a parent of a camper/campers what I witnessed is astounding. Campers are met, dropped off and picked up in a parking lot. The parking lot that is next to a public community parking lot. As a parent , safety is my main concern. Sending my child to camp , I should feel safe. Well, I did not feel safe watching my child stand in a parking lot where others can park and watch my child/children as well as others. This brings a whole level of concern.
Another concern I have is that I received a welcome email at the beginning of camp only. No other communication sent or received. No information from the Camp Director , I have no information on who it would even be. No one has name tags! At drop someone at a plain table checks off names on a sheet and tells them to stand with a group of other campers. The group leader or group person was also a minor their self… They had no clip board or reference of the children in their group, no information whatsoever. Campers all over the parking lot, cars coming and going. How is this safe? Any child could just walk off, could be hit by a car pulling in or out of a spot and being watched and observed from the other lot, by God who know who!
Pick up time, no one asked who my sitter was, only the camper who they where there for. Anyone with a name can take a child, how is this?
Half the staff are minors themselves. Management or the lack of was also unsettling.
Now mind you, with yesterday being the first day, I held off, but witnessing the same thing happening today, something needs to be said. I was going to go into the office and ask to speak with someone in charge but did not want to bring attention to my child/children. We paid good money for this camp experience and are just so shocked by the lax dated safety measures, communication, representation and honestly the whole overall way it has been run so far.
Cleanliness is a whole other matter. Bathrooms are left untidy as well as the facility in general.
Parents, be warned and yes, I should have spoken up and I may still do so. But my hopes are tomorrow I will see changes!
A disappointed Parent
Redirect to the Owner: who seems also unprofessional!
Watching from the office... Are you for real! You must not have children and ever attended a real camp drop off. The main gate would actually be safer.
My concern is not whether or not my child/children are having a good time, but the safety concerns at Drop off and Pick up. Having a aged appropriate staffing that actually have name tags that identify themselves.
Having a pick up system that safe so not anyone can just pick up off the street.
Bathrooms and facility is a mess at drop off, can't imagine 50 plus campers making a mess.
This is way more important than this review, but maybe the State Camps need to...
Read moreI went to camp here for Idk like four years when I was younger, and I don't know why I returned each year, probably cause the horses I liked, but other then that, I hated this camp. I don't know about the owner or such, but the instructors I was with were really not nice at all and not patient. At the time I was only a beginning rider and they left me alone and didn't help me at all. (only one instructor did which I really liked, but then she left and I was sad.). They even pressured me to do stuff I was uncomfortable with such as trotting, and in order to make me trot they literally held my feet together and ran next to the horse while I was on it. I almost fell off the horse once because they didn't tighten the girth and the saddle literally was falling sideways and I was trotting on top of that because it was a relay race. I was scared, and no one seemed to be helpful at all. Also the stables are in poor conditions, the stables look like they are never really clean thoroughly. I also had a bad experience with one of the campers, she was rude and she even thrown a helmet at me! And the counselors said it was because she was challenged or what ever and used that as a excuse. But I was crying and very upset, and yet they didn't do anything to solve the situation and said "oh just let it be" like I don't want to feel unsafe, but I did. They also made us ride in rain before on the trail ride. I was literally soaked it looked like I jumped in a pool I was that soaked. They have you put your lunchboxes where flies were, and was gross. I ride at a different place now, EEC, and they are much better at attending to each riders need and level and I love it there (i can trot now! because of that place). But I had a terrible experience at Seaton Hackney. And felt really unsafe, deffintly not a good camp if you are a beginer rider, they won't...
Read moreOf all things I’m grateful for Seaton Hackney for, it’s my instructor, Hailey. I have been riding for over 19 years, and I can say without a doubt that Hailey is the best instructor I have ever had. Under her guidance, I have gained more confidence in myself as a rider than I ever thought possible. Hailey prioritizes safety and comfort at all times, ensuring that her students not only feel secure but also learn the skills necessary to keep themselves safe through proper horsemanship and riding position.
One of the things that truly sets Hailey apart is the way she connects with her students. She shares relevant stories and personal experiences that make her instruction feel relatable and approachable. Because of this, I have built a connection with her that I have never had with another instructor, and I feel fully supported in my riding journey. She explains the why behind her corrections, breaking things down in a clear, kind, and constructive way that makes it easy to understand and apply.
Perhaps the most invaluable part of my experience with Hailey is the way she helps me work through challenges. When I get in my own head, psych myself out, or if a horse acts up, she takes the time to work through the moment with me, ensuring I always end my lesson on a positive note. That level of care and encouragement has not only transformed my riding but has also had a profound impact on my confidence outside the barn.
I am endlessly grateful for Hailey and the way she has helped me grow as both a rider and a person. If you’re looking for an instructor who is knowledgeable, patient, encouraging, and truly invested in your success, look no further. Hailey is...
