I was so excited to learn that this place opened. We took a day trip from Raleigh to check out the newly opened Mt. Olive Pickle Parlor. The place itself was a cool idea as there was an area in which you could read about the history of Mt. Olive pickles. There was also an informative video to watch. There were several gift items available for purchase and pickles available for purchase. I thought there was supposed to be tastings or pickle drinks for purchase. Maybe there was supposed to be, but the woman working there hates her job.
When we entered the store we were not greeted at all. I finally said hello to the woman behind the counter and she was put out by that gesture. There was a sign that said "pickle of the day". We asked what that was about and she simply replied "those two jars". No further information was provided. Why would they employ someone who is completely incapable of interacting with other humans in any way shape or form?
I was extremely disappointed and it's really sad because if they had an employee with an ounce of customer service or personality it would have been an amazing experience. As is, I do not recommend anyone waste their time...
Read moreWe went here as a birthday trip. It was so nice. The bathrooms were so clean and big. They had a video playing that's 13 minutes long where you can sit and see how Mount Olive pickle company started and how they're made. It was very interesting. Lots to buy in the shop. There were pickle balls, blankets, beach towels, key chains, ornaments, hats, youth shirts, adult hoodies and shirts, and of course the pickled/pickle products. We did a pickle tasting which is the "pickle of the day". It was two items, pickled mushrooms and picked carrots. Never had either until today and both were really good! And I actually don't like carrots but ended up buying a jar for me and my 5 year old. The pickle soda was surprisingly tasty and refreshing. We bought 6 cans and since we had a long drive back home they packed some ice in the bag with the cans. The staff is the SWEETEST!! They are so nice and helpful. Definitely worth...
Read moreAs a NC native, I have enjoyed Mount Olive pickles since my youth. They were a staple at my house growing up. The pickles and relishes are the best. My most favorite pickle is the sours. I remember getting the large ones at the state fair in past years. They do not carry any sours in the stores locally anymore. I read about the new store and decided to make a side trip to the Pickle Parlor. I could not be more pleased. I was able to find hoodies and shirts including Christmas shirts. I was able to stock up on the small jars of the sour pickles (they have the large pickles also). They have a pickle bar with a limited tasting menu that rotates. They have a time line and a video that shows the progression and growth of the company. Always love it when I get a taste of home with southern...
