The Mount Vernon store used to be one of our favorite stores and we switched from Lowes when they came to town. We have several businesses and properties in Mount Vernon. The staff has always been so nice and helpful to us and we have spent thousands of dollars at Menards on home improvements and our businesses. We have sent several customers of ours there and have always recommended Menards to friends and family. That is why we are absolutely shocked at what happened to us on February 8, 2020 in the evening when we went to Menards to shop for a new front door. My husband and I went in and were helped by a polite young man by the name of Zach. He helped us design what we wanted and it came to almost $2000.00. I realized that I left my wallet at home and asked him if he could take payment over the phone from my Mother In-Law, who also is the owner of the house where the door needed to be replaced. He said yes and spoke with her on the phone and got all of her information. At that point, Zach said we needed to walk to the front of the store to get approval from the manager. As we we were walking with Zach to the front and before we were even halfway there, we were rudely ambushed by Michael who never identified himself and he told us that they didn't take credit cards over the phone and that we needed to leave the store immediately! We were shocked! I could of just ran home to get my credit card but he was treating us like we just stole something! My husband asked him who he was and he would still not identify himself. I could tell that Zach was mortified and he mouthed to me that he was sorry. We left but not quietly because this man that we later thought was just security belittled us in front of other customers and even had the police show up at our home to tell my husband he was banned from the store. I asked the officer if I was and he said no. Fast forward to yesterday, I had to run in to get salt for our office buildings and naturally I went to Menards and was helped by a nice guy who even loaded my cart with bags of salt and I had other things as well. I checked out and left with no incident at all. Had to run back there today and pick up some other things for a big project, I was stopped again by Michael who asked me if I was trying to buy a door the other week and if so I was trespassing!! This time he was a little flirty with me and I told him that the officer said I could still come into Menards. After I rejected his advances, I was told to leave and never come back! Again, I am shocked! Have no clue who this man is, but he has been reported...
Read moreI went to Menards on Friday and spent almost $500. I accidentally left one of my bags at the store. I called on Sunday and asked if the bag was there. She said that the bag was there and I told her that I was coming Monday when I got off work. I get there today and she can’t find a bag and said they must’ve put the stuff back on the shelf even though I told her I was coming to get it today. So she told me to go get the stuff that was in my bag and they were out of one of the items. She said I could pick a different one or get a refund. I didn’t want a different one, I wanted the one I paid for. I just think it is completely ridiculous that if someone pays for something and accidentally leaves it there that you put it back on the shelf when they told you they’re coming back to get it.
Then the store manager informed us that the item is now discontinued and they won’t be getting more. He said it was bad communication on their part because it should’ve been communicated that I was coming to pick them up today and it was not so they were put back.He offered no other way to make it right.
Update: FIVE STARS, but only for TIFFANY! SHE DESERVES A RAISE! She truly went above and beyond for me! She found my item in a cart of items that need put back on the shelf and called me back to let me know she...
Read moreMy husband and I have been looking for flooring for our entire home (2400 sq feet) for a while, we live in the Effingham area and went to that Menards, we found the vinyl plank flooring we like but they didn’t have enough on hand (yes we are doing the entire house in the same flooring) So I called your Mt Vernon store, talked to Erik W. and they had had what we needed. He was so helpful over the phone!! When my husband and I drove down there, he was just as helpful in person! The guy that loaded the pallet of flooring onto my husbands truck was super nice and did a great job! We unloaded it and went to pick up the flooring at Effingham Menards. Wow what a difference of stores!!! The guy that went to load the pallet of flooring this time had no clue how to drive the forklift. Told my husband the pallet wouldn’t fit, he told the guy that the store in Mt Vernon got a pallet on. The guy laughed. We will drive to Mt Vernon again before dealing at Effingham if at all possible. We are just starting a total remodel. Thanks Erik and our loader at...
