VanLandschoot & Sons Fish Market — Local services in Munising

Recently went there and was very disappointed, do NOT go here. Go to one of the other two fishhouses in town. I have been to many fishhouses around the great lakes as well as the Atlantic Coast and it was very clear to us that theses guys do not care about their products. The lady behind the counter wasn't super friendly. The "fresh fish" did not look good at all, it was clearly old and it smelled. We checked out the smokehouse before going in, and frankly I would never buy smoked fish from someone who painted their smoke house (I do not want to get sick). With that said the smoked fish didn't look great either. However, one person in my group wanted to just try it so they bought a small piece. He took a bite of it when we got back to our car and said it tasted bad-mind you we all eat smoked fish regularly at home. We then went to the other two fishhouses, Matson's and Brey's, and the service was way better and both of them had fish that actually looked and smelled fresh! Not to mention they were WAY cheaper than the VanLandschoot place. We got some smoked fish from each of the other places and they both tasted amazing!!! We had a friend who was at a nearby campsite pick up some dip, smoked fish and fresh fish fish for us. I personally spoke to the owner's wife who said the smoked fish could be frozen as well as the dip and the fresh fish. My friend received the smoked fish frozen along with the others, about $70.00 dollars worth . Come to find out that freezing the smoked fish ruins it and the current batch of dip was over salted and uneatable. I phoned the owner who promised after sampling the dip himself to refund my money. It was the owner who offered to refund my money and unfortunately never sent me a check (I did not expect a refund on the fresh fish) . I called at least 4 times even spoke to the granddaughter who was aware that I was supposed to get a refund but after months, no refund. I sent them an email and said I would post a bad review if they did not refund my money so here it is because I just have no respect for...

We stopped by the food truck just down the road. It was noon on a Friday so pretty busy but the kind gentleman doing the cooking and taking orders had no problem keeping up. 2 piece whitefish, 4 piece walleye. It was perhaps the BEST fish and chips, next to a road side stand in Oregon I had about a year ago 😊. The lightly dusted coating is perfect. Freshest fish I’ve had in a long, long time. I normally get nervous with skin, but this was crispy and delicious and not “fishy” a sure bet it was caught within hours. Also lemon wedges and malt vinegar was the cherry on top!
