I was trying to rescue a cat. When they saw on the application that I had a dog, they told me I had to bring the dog in to meet any of the cats I was interested in. Before we could even meet any of the cats, they had to be exposed to our dog first. They brought the cat into the room in a cat carrier and encouraged my dog to sniff through the bars. Obviously, this is a stressful situation, and not the correct way for two unfamiliar animals to meet. And when they inevitably hissed at my dog, I was told it "obviously wouldn't work out" with each cat they tried. Finally, they told me I would have to return the following day, so they could "find" the rest of the cats we might be interested in. When they returned my call, they told me that all the other cats I might want to see are on meds and aren't available for at least 2 weeks. I feel like that was just an excuse to get me to stop trying to adopt a pet. If they have such an over abundance of pets, perhaps they shouldn't make it impossible for good pet owners to adopt one. I went elsewhere, and was able to meet several cats, found one who liked us (the humans), and brought her home. I won't make the mistake of trying to adopt from Muscatine ever again. Huge...

The application alone would suffice bc they call landlords, vets for other animals in home and things like that. But they also go to your home like they're DHS or police. Seems a bit excessive. I know they want the best for an animal but they treat it like it's a child being adopted.. If you want an easier process to adopt I suggest going anywhere else. They do make it clear that it is a bit of a process if youâre out of state, but what they wonât tell you is that they will decide that They donât want to wait for the process after you already picked out your cat and filled out the adoption form.
