Four years ago, I decided to take up the banjo at age 59. I have always loved music but I had never tried to play an instrument and knew nothing about how to read music. I walked into Needham Music one day and Barry, the owner, assured me they could help me get going. He sold me a solid banjo for a beginner and set me up for weekly lessons with Casey Abrams. Casey and I hit it off right away. He quickly got me started with the basics and recommended the perfect instruction book to use as the foundation for my first year. Every lesson was informative, motivating and (most important) fun! Whether we were working on something specific from a book or following a path I had independently chosen to take that week, Casey was encouraging, helpful and very patient with me. He harnessed my primal love of music and always kept me motivated. I took four full school years of weekly lessons with Casey and am still as excited about learning things on the banjo as I was when I started. The instructors are top-notch. My teacher is a graduate of Berkeley School of Music. She is a highly accomplished professional musician. I am enjoying the voice lessons so much!
