A price comparison in Feb 2019 showed little significant difference (less than 5%) between McNaughton and a local competitor in 3 classes of feed: chicken (layer), "sweet feed" (grain mix with light molasses) and shelled corn McNaughton's own brand of chicken feed is made up with a protein concentrate derived from poultry parts from industrial slaughter. The most recent bag of it I bought was obviously contaminated with rat feces. The competitor's nutritionally-comparable product was entirely vegetable in origin, cost 8% more and had no visible rodent waste contamination. The proprietor vigorously denied having any rodents whatsoever in his grain mill. McNaughton accepts payment by check or in cash; no credit cards or debit cards. They are friendly, as are their competitor's service employees. It is not worth the extra expense to deal with this company or use its products. We will use their competitors and seek other...
Read moreI bought the mash a while back and have been fermenting it overnight and feeding it to my 13 Rhode Island Reds. They look the healthiest they have ever been and they daily completely consume a 9" dia. / 2" deep pie pan that is filled to the top. I keep the bin feeder filled with the Kalmbach crumbles as a supplement to mash and consumption has dropped to about 1/4 of what is was when that was the primary source of feed. The girls range in age from 30 weeks to just short of 3 years and are laying around 9-10 eggs daily.
