I wanted to love this GymâŠ
I visited Retro Fitness with high hopes, expecting it to become my new home gym. Having had a great experience at another location, I came in excited and fully ready to sign up the same day. Unfortunately, my visit was a complete disappointment.
The first thing I noticed was the poor ventilation near the treadmills in the back. The air was stale, and odors lingered throughout the gym, making it uncomfortable to work out. The machines were dirty, with water and Gatorade bottles left near outlets, and the strength training area was completely disorganizedâweights were scattered everywhere and left unracked, creating an unsafe and unprofessional atmosphere.
To make matters worse, the gym lacked WiFi, and cell reception was nonexistent downstairs; my phone even switched to SOS mode. Staying connected during workouts is important, and the lack of connectivity added to the frustration. The staff seemed disengaged and unaware of the state of the gym, which left the entire environment feeling chaotic, dirty, and unsafe.
I tried to push through, staying for about 30 to 40 minutes, but it was impossible to ignore the glaring issues. While the equipment selection was impressive, the overall experience didnât come close to justifying the premium prices Retro Fitness charges.
Retro, I truly wanted to love this location, but it needs serious improvements in cleanliness, organization, and management. Please address these issues to create an environment that matches your brandâs potential and your membersâ...
Read moreI started going to a different location then discovered this Springfield location which is convenient for me to go to. The quality of this location is below par compared to the other Retro Fitness gyms Iâve visited. The only bathroom stall door that works is the handicap bathroom, there is no full body mirror in the womenâs locker room and the members in this gym does not re-rack their weights or readjust machines for the next person which resulted in a machine almost crushing me because I wasnât tall enough to adjust. Please encourage your members to re-rack their weights. Also why isn't the staff walking around doing sweeps like every other gym? This gym sends a loud and clear message that women shouldnât be in the gym.
Update - I reached out to the Forest Hills Location to cancel my membership and was told that my membership was transferred to the Springfield location for a few months without my knowledge and consent BUT was still billing me for the Forest Hills price which was double the price of the...
Read moreI feel this location is discriminated against compared to the other Queens retro fitness locations, Union Turnpike, Queens Blvd. This location is located a predominately black neighborhood. The showers do not have soap dispensers, no towel hooks, no mirror electrical sockets to blow dry hair, no bench in the handicap shower. When asked the manager about these important amenities he shrugged and said were not getting it. I then asked if any of the other Queens Franchise has it. He said no. In other words he outright lied!! I writing âthis review from the Queens Blvd location and these amenities are there. These are standard necessities. Why is it the black neighborhood location doesnât have it??
They probably wouldâve charged me to bring daughter home thatâs home for summer as a guest? Queens Blvd did not charge my guest This is really sad. I will not be attending the Springfield Blvd location again. But I had to write this review because Iâm sure other members may feel the same.
