I stated if this is how she chooses to run her practice, I didn’t want my IUD in me anymore, & I wanted the same doctor who placed the IUD in me to take it out. She agreed to perform IUD removal but for some reason, she completed a pap smear instead. It was painful as it cuts my cervical tissue. She then asked me if I can go back to her office another day for my IUD removal. I explained that I could not as I commuted from out of state. As stated just a few mins before, if I cannot get a medically necessary ultrasound for my wellness exam, then I need the IUD out because I’m starting family planning soon. She decided to throw out my pap smear into the trashcan in front of me. Without any pre or post procedure education, she removed my IUD. I was in a lot of pain throughout the entire process. She asked me after if I have a pad on me. I said “no, why? Do I need one? How long should I anticipate bleeding?” She just said “maybe” and left the room. No pain assessment, no education, no in office discussion, she said I was done & told me to pay a co-pay. I can tell she was upset that I didn’t agree to ADVANCE CASH ONLY UPFRONT for a visit that’s COVERED by my insurance. But I was quite shocked at how my OB GYN who’ve myself & my family have known for years treated me.
I presented my Flex Spending card to their office for my unexpected co-pay. Their office declined my payment method & refused to let me leave their office over a small amount of co-pay until I agreed to go to the nearest ATM to pay CASH ONLY again. I told their office my insurance company sent me a letter specifically instructing me to NOT pay in CASH in advance for ANY medical visits. I have a copy of my insurance’s detailed instructions & requested for their office email to send a copy. They declined to give me their email & asked me to send them money via Quick Pay instead. It was only after I asked them what happens if I do not follow my insurance’s specific instruction of What Not To Do, & if I cannot get my co-pay back from my Flex Spending Acct which I already pre-paid. Then they finally agreed to let me leave.
I proceeded to call my insurance right away on the back of the card. They are open 7 days a week till 6pm, & I got through to my insurance concierge after 1-2 minutes wait time. I was shocked at what just happened & went over my coverage with my insurance. My insurance stated everything IS covered & it’s the doctor’s responsibility to find out what’s covered. We completed a 3 way call to the doctor’s office, explaining to them my coverage plan, & patient safety as I was denied proper care. Their office had a very nasty attitude & basically told me it’s not their problem. Nevertheless, from this experience I will not be returning to Dr. Wang. I cannot be denied needed medical testing & treatments when I start pregnancy planning...
