Bravo Supermarkets — Local services in Newark

I've traveled many places where there were no local store, so in that case it's a Godsend. However, I have bought some produce here that weren't good, on few occasions. My fresh ginger to make tea, is VERY reasonably priced. No complaints. However, there's a chance you run buying it because you don't know until you get home to cut it and find it's unsalvageable and a waste. The ginger had green mold-like rings and was going bad. Happened with 3-4 packs bought same time. 2 apples cut into ready to eat, but couldn't bc insides were starting to rot. Both apples. Wasted. Be mindful if you shop here. Waste of time, money. Certain items you go looking for, simple items, NOT gourmet or eccentric, but can't. Simple boxed strawberry cake mix NOT a Pillsbury or Duncan Hines. Good for some things, I will say BUT better off at ShopRite to not ONLY get ALL the stuff you need & SAVE...

It smells bad here. Gives off an odor of rodents, and old products as soon as you walk in. It looks like a dungeon instead of a place to buy food. The floors are filthy, I've seen mice droppings, and shelves are dirty to the touch. Most of the produce doesn't look bad, but will only last a day at home before starting to rot. The meat department is absolutely DISGUSTING! Purchase and eat at your own Risk! It seems that rotting meat is just flipped over and repackaged?!! Clear slimey liquid and old blood oozes out of some of the meats onto others. Some of the refrigerated juices are bloated and taste bad, but you can't tell from use by date. And, after all this nastiness, they have the nerve to be kinda pricey! The cashiers do their job's and are respectful which, shouldn't be the highlight, but it's the only positive thing I can say about the place. I obviously haven't...

Bottom line. Only two stars because they charge regular supermarket prices for second hand products. If u looking for canned goods and bottled products you're ok. Otherwise u won't be impressed. They are my last resort if I'm trying to go local and save some gas money.. only time I shop here if I need something quick that I don't feel like taking the drive to a bigger supermarket for.. if u want me to say something good about the place at least the cashiers are quick. Lol.. I hate to speak down on places but if u got the time and gas you're better off going somewhere else. Oh and they got free delivery after your purchase so u can walk in , buy groceries and they'll take u home for free with your bags.....
