I read a review about NSU calling the school "racists" and feel the need to respond. I am also a Caucasian student at NSU and have never once felt like I don't fit in. I love my HBCU and chose this school over ODU because of the size and location, I have stayed here because the education that you receive is eye opening (I am a History's major so much of my focus is on African American History which you wouldn't find as much of anywhere else.) I am also an adult student (with a husband, kids, and dogs) and Navy Veteran and have found a small little niche of friends from those experiences as well as a few other friends that I have met along the way. I have only had one Professor who was snippy with me (but in fairness she was snippy with all students white or black because she was a little bit older than the average professor) and all my other Professors have been more than understanding about issues that I have had and challenges that I face (I moved during my senior year across the country, and my Professors care enough to check in on me time to time to make sure that I am still on track.) NSU is a great school with caring Professors and a caring developmental staff dedicated to...
Read moreNorfolk State University has been one of the most frustrating and disappointing institutions I’ve ever dealt with. The level of disorganization across departments is shocking. From financial aid to admissions, it is nearly impossible to get clear, consistent answers. Instead, students are sent in circles, receiving conflicting information from different staff members, which wastes valuable time and delays important processes. The lack of communication is unacceptable. Phone calls go unanswered, emails are ignored, and when you finally do reach someone, you’re often met with unhelpful or dismissive attitudes. Students should not have to beg for the basic support needed to succeed in their education. It feels as though Norfolk State prioritizes collecting tuition over providing actual guidance and resources for their students. The overall culture of inefficiency and lack of accountability reflects poorly on the university as a whole. I cannot recommend Norfolk State to anyone seeking a professional, supportive, and reliable college experience. Until major improvements are made in staff training, communication, and accountability, this school will continue to fail the students it...
Read moreAs a fellow alumnus I learned so much about myself and the world around me when I matriculated there. NSU continues to grow and remains competitive along side it's peers to be one of the youngest HBCU's (founded 1935). The professors genuinely care for the students' welfare and progress. Great accredited academic programs. Aside from studying in your major, and working with the professors, I believe meeting new friends while in college can enhance your collegiate experience. I've made some life time friends there. One way of meeting new friends is joining some student organizations. It can make a world of difference. Each year I notice the new development that goes into the academic programs, student services, and campus landscape in order for each student to get the highest quality education attainable; beautiful campus, new state of the art library, and nice large stadium. Some faithful alumni. To be an institution under a hundred years there is a lot of...
