One crew nice, one crew evil Grinch on Christmas eve. Recommend going to the Shell on the other side of the overpass.
My son hit a deer on 90 in NY about midnight on the night before Christmas Eve. They pulled into Kwik Fill to assess damage. The folks there were nice and helpful, letting them use a phone (no cell service), offering contacts for repair, work, etc... But, that friendliness didn't carry over to the next day.
I drove up from North Carolina (10 hours) to replace the radiator since no shop was open on Saturday/Christmas Eve. The Saturday crew at Kwik Fill was mean spirited and rude from the outset, yelling at us and cursing. It was cold, windy, drizzling, and there was snow on the ground - all I wanted was some semblance of shelter to replace the radiator - anywhere really, to provide a wind break. I asked nicely, smiling, friendly, and asking for a little compassion on a Christmas eve where my son and his young wife were stranded at a remote truck stop 500 miles from home. No, the crew was not only unwilling to agree to let me work on my son's Explorer anywhere near the side of the out building or near any of the many awnings (one of which was already blocked off with orange cones, but, they were mean about it, too. Rude even. We heard the names they called us. We saw them laugh among themselves about our predicament. We saw them not give a damn about a fellow human in trouble. Here we were stranded travelers just trying to navigate a messy situation on a holiday weekend, and they took some perverse pleasure in being rude and mean. None of those folks should be allowed a position that interacts with the public
We left and went to the Shell station on the other side of the overpass. It was run by an eastern couple - Indian or Pakistani, I guess. I explained our predicament and they happily offered the last bay in their truck/diesel canopy, wished us merry Christmas, and helped make sure we got everything fixed and safe in time to make it home to NC for Christmas.
We did make it home. We left the Shell station at 3PM Christmas Eve, covered in radiator fluid and dirt and wet with snow and muck, and dog-tired with still 10 hours of driving ahead of us. We arrived home in NC about 3AM Christmas day; I hadn't slept in 48 hours. We had a wonderful Christmas day with our full family. We all talked about the Eastern couple - not Christians, not western by heritage - being the heroes of our story. They were open, loving and compassionate to strangers in distress on the eve of a holy day foreign to...
Read moreI was coming into PA from NY when the alarms in my truck starting going off that the tire pressure in all of my tires were dangerously low. The closest gas station was this Kwik Fill, off of exit 45. I pulled up to the air station and started to fill my tires. I donât know why it wasnât working, but the pressure continued to have a low reading. An employee had been watching me and saw that it wasnât working and automatically offered to help me. He went inside, got his pressure gauge, and filled my tires himself until they were at the proper level. He made sure that the rest of my trip back to Irwin was safe. I can not thank him enough for his kindness and neither can my family. His name was Josh. Heâs a fellow Star Wars fan...we talked shop đ My only regret is that I wish I would have gotten his last name, too, so that he could have the proper recognition that...
Read moreI stopped for fuel and to use the restroom, I was on the phone with my dispatcher waiting on the only working toilet, the other was stopped up, got tired of waiting and went to get my fuel receipt, the guy at the counter made a comment about someone can't read, after the employ joined him behind the counter. I informed him that I can read and that they might want to fix the other toilet before it overflows into the floor because it was stopped up. It was upsetting to me that she was in the bathroom on her phone texting her co-worker saying there was a man in the women's room, and neither one of them was even professional enough to apologize to me for the comment. I WILL NEVER STOP THERE AGAIN FOR ANY REASON. They are...
