updating my review*couldn’t give 5 stars because of my previous visit/experience that I wrote about in my original review. But since then the rep who provided me with the negative experience is no longer there. Because they are semi close to my house (Keller) and they have the best price and membership plan around I went back and literally every time has been a great experience! Every RSO since my run in with Isaac has been very friendly, knowledgeable and most of all ensures everyone’s safety.
I really wanted to like this range but after today’s incident I will not be going back!!! I was at the rifle range shooting my 556 and 300blk out getting new scopes sighted in. Then after about 30 minutes of shooting a fat man Karen (never thought I’d run into one of these at a freaking gun range) got there and after a few minutes my wife said she noticed him pacing back and forth and giving me dirty looks. I had no idea what was going on since I was focused on sighting in. The fat man Karen then complained to the range master Isaac that my rifle was too LOUD for him to focus. First don’t blame your crappy grouping on noise. What do expect to happen in a shtf moment tell the bad guys to be quiet cause you can’t focus. Anyways I expected the range master to move him or just tell him to double up on hearing but instead he told ME. MY RIFLE WAS TOO LOUD!!!!!!! Again I was at a gun range in the rifle lane doing everything I am supposed to be doing carefully as I always practice gun safety but then I was told to hay my rifle was an issue. Mind you I have been here before and never had any complaints before today but after the Karen next to me started whining I was honestly shocked and really disappointed that they didn’t move him since I was already set up with multiple rifles out or could have politely asked him to double up on hearing protection but instead Isaac seemed to be upset with me and told me my rifle was just too loud! My setup is a sbr 556 with an Ultradyne compensator and yes it is loud because the adjustable gas ports but that’s why I bought it to help with recoil and muzzle rise. If they were going to ask me to leave even though I pay for a membership they should make it clear or post somewhere that we can’t use certain muzzle devices. Anyways after some back and forth with this Karen he asked me to “step outside” and I smiled and said are you an idiot I’m armed, live in Texas and my wife is with me so I will defend myself so you wouldn’t be much of a fight. He got real quiet after that but my day was already ruined so I packed up and left. While leaving I spoke with a different range master outside and he 100%agreed with me that there are no restrictions and that people should be well aware that if you go to a gun range that you will hear some noise, common sense people. Anyways don’t go here if you want to practice or sight in your rifle!! I’m also going to reach out to corp to get their official stance on my situation and what their official policies are because this experience was absolutely shocking and again really disappointed in the way that Isaac replied to the situation. Instead of asking the Karen to put in secondary earmuffs that I would have even given his broke ass some plug ins to shut him up but Isaac saw that I had my silencer central tshirt on and asked if I could put on my suppressor. I told him I don’t have it on this rifle and then he said yeah it’s just too loud….. I honestly feel like they infringed on my second amendment rights by instituting a too loud policy just for me and in a gun range of all places where you would think there are like minded people who are aware and experienced with firearms and the sounds and concussions felt but this place is no longer the place for me. Again very disappointed in the way this was handled and really felt like it was something personal with me but who knows I won’t be back...
Read more3/11/2020 - The corporate management called me personally and I must say I was impressed. They openly admitted their downfalls and have taken steps to correct it. I want to point out again the people that work in this location are exceptional. If you need help or instruction go see E.J. He is wonderful. Very knowledgeable and very friendly and easy to talk too. I plan to start a membership here in the next couple months.
3/4/2020 - Update- - I signed up for the proficiency test ONLY for the LTC and I was again faced with the complete lack of ability to set correct and clear expectations. The website shows the class as being ONE HOUR (see photo attached of the website class) I got there at 6:45PM and was told there would be an hour of CLASSROOM instruction BEFORE the testing would take place AND Ready for this....there are 21 people signed up for the testing. Ummm there is no way you are going to get though 21 people in under an hour and I was right! We did not get to leave until 9:40PM. What was expected to take 60 minutes took 2 hours and 40 minutes. My time is NOT FREE! AND YOU ALL JUST ROBED me of 1 hour and 40 minutes of my TIME. Had I known the class was going to be almost 3 hours I would NOT have signed up for an AFTER WORK class, but rather a weekend. The people at this location are the only reason I return. EJ, Frank and Rachel are wonderful and the instructors John and Joseph are great. The corporate office, marketing staff and website management should all be fired and found incompetent. I have discussed this problem multiple times with multiple people and it has fallen on deaf ears. Clearly the owners and management care nothing of people's experience within their classes and establishment which is sad.
Initial POST below: I took a basic handgun class here. I was expecting multiple people but not 28 in one class! The range was not prepared to handle that many in one class. The instructor John was informative and good, but once out of the classroom and it was time to rent a gun and go into the range, it was utter chaos. It took about an hour just to get everyone a rented gun and then they had to have groups of people up and shooting (3 groups so about 19 of us were standing around waiting our turn for almost an hour) and the others just standing and waiting to shoot. I did buy a handgun that day from Frank who was extremely knowledgeable and excellent customer service! I went back to shoot later in the week and the line to get a lane was 20 people deep and after 10 mins in line and ZERO people behind the counter helping my patience was gone. You all need to get your...
Read moreEdit November 2024: went again due to my shooting partner saying he hadn't seen that particular associate since I'd gone a month ago and he insisted I give it another chance. Well, the associates were back to normal again, the one guy wasn't there, and it was a very good experience, (was acknowledged by the desk, no yelling while checking in when only two feet away, gave us a lane, range officer checked in when first entering and after shooting). That's all I wanted, like it used to be. No drama.
So I've updated the review to reflect this. I've bought three guns from Range USA/formerly Shoot Point Blank and generally have had a good experience. They have a really nice selection to choose from and/or can order something in most times if need be. Their ammo is nicely priced for members, too.
Edit October 2024: they must've fired all the associates from before. The past few times I've gone, they've been hit or miss. Sometimes they treat me rather well, talk to me normally, make eye contact, you know, the regular way Southern people treat each other.
Other times, like recently, they're likely to toss your driver's license back at you instead of handing it back or even simply placing it on the table; talk about you behind your back; don't even go up to you when you're at the sales desk; say really loudly "you only have 40 minutes to shoot", you know, stuff most people would consider a kinda rude way of dealing with people. I went one hour and 10 minutes before closing, but I didn't even need the whole hour, or 40 minutes even, my party of two total people stayed in the lane less than 30 minutes. There was a party of 5 people behind us who seemed to be new to the range because they were all signing range waivers. They were still shooting along with at least four other lanes when we left. The safety officer inside the range was cool though. Was not rude at all.
Were they mad that all these people were coming one hour or so before closing? I don't know. Then say no new shooters after 630pm. The rules don't say that though.
Me and my shooting buddy are both premium members, too. I'm currently looking for a different range or a different Range USA to go to.
Original post 5 years ago: Great place for gun rentals. The staff at the rental area was very friendly and knowledgeable. The place is clean and the pistols/guns were clean. The safety officer on range was respectful enough to not hover, yet remained nearby enough to be cautious and aware. With her there, I felt the range was in safe hands. While the place and the prices are fine and fair, the people and service are what sets this...
