Nice store, but…. Was impressed at first on my first visit but after going back a second time I found that my choice to make the compromise and buy a knife, the first visit, which was its last item on display, sadly has become evident to me on my second trip is ALL THEY HAVE is the display items. I looked at 6 knives from Benchmade (bugout) Kershaw (bel air) and a couple of Civivi options and when I went to pull the trigger and buy one from one of those options, that was all that they had. It was buy the display model or go without. What made it worse was going home and finding that Amazon has all the same inventory but actually in stock (so you’re not stuck buying a handled knife that was on display), and about 50% of the time for a cheaper price. This perturbed me because that means if you are buying from REC online, they’re likely just grabbing it off the display case and repackaging that to ship out, and then they are out of stock. I don’t like driving all the way across town to hit up a local dealer that has essentially made my only option to buy the display knife. I would be more bothered buying a “brand new” knife online not even knowing that they are actually just taking that knife from the display and repackaging it as new. Their backstock of accessories seems to be there, but not one knife was available other than the one on the shelf. Neat point program, I’ll give them that. Nice, open store with lots of inventory (on the floor, but what you see is what you get). Friendly staff and again, a very nice location and store. Welcoming. If you’re just wanting to look at and handle a knife from online, I would definitely suggest these guys. They also have a lot of other accessories and services that are wonderful, but if you were going to actually buy a knife, you’d likely be better off buying from Amazon at a sometimes cheaper (or equal to) price knowing it wasn’t handled by a dozen people and a box no longer “sealed” (unopened), if that’s important to you. Good to look at if you absolutely need to feel a knife before buying. To me, they will be useful to go in and play with and check out new models I’m curious about, but have considered that I will likely have to end up purchasing said knife from online. Shame, really. The irony is I would have paid full price for a knife while I was there, but it was the display model and I didn’t want any of those. Now that I know I like it, went on Amazon and found it for cheaper. I hate Amazon but they win again. Buy it on Amazon and if you don’t like it, you usually have a short window where you can just return it, no...
Read moreThey used to have something for every budget. Used to. I don't need fancy or expensive stuff. I need knives that I don't mind losing or breaking. They also used to have fun, silly stuff like blow dart guns. Used to.
Now it's a big beautiful store with a lot of expensive beautiful things. Yes there are a few inexpensive items, but the selection is pretty limited.
I really miss the old tiny store. I feel like there was a bigger selection when it was smaller.
Edit: Thanks for the response. I have tried to order the less expensive stuff from your store, but I was told that it could not be ordered. Specifically, back around Christmas I tried to buy some of the little $20'ish out the front knives you used to carry. The guys at work were constantly borrowing mine and I was going to buy half a dozen as Christmas gifts. I also once bought a little blow dart gun from your store and I would like to buy another.
I used to buy something every time I stopped in because your store used to be cool, and I wanted to support you rather than Walmart. Now, there's no way for me to support you. I like looking at the $1000 knives, but I will never buy one. If you start carrying the little out the fronts again, then I can support you.
People see my little out the front and ask where they can buy one. I have to tell...
Read moreGreat shop! Checked it out for the first time today. Needed a blade sharpened and decided to look around. Very pleased with the selection and service. Massive selection of straight razor and classic shaving products as well. You can smell the testosterone in this place. If they sold firearms I would've been giddy.
Asked the gentleman behind the counter for his opinion on the most underrated blade in the store and he pointed me to solid folder that's build like a tank for under $50. I didn't catch his name, but I noticed a Spyderco tattoo so I was expecting him to be biased and take me on a walk to the Spyderco case. I was pleasantly surprised when he did not. Seemed well rounded and had great advice without the fanboy sales pitch I was expecting. I'm a big fan of Spyderco by the way so no offense to them.
All in all I had a great experience. No pressure at all. Intended to just get a blade sharpened but ended up ordering a new knife thanks to the advice I received. Solid guys. They...
