I consider myself an avid fisherman in Florida, so when I went on my honeymoon to Hawaii with my wife I really wanted to go on a fishing charter. The resort we stayed at recommended a company in the nearby port but the reviews for this charter sucked. We did some research and found Boom Boom on google. They had amazing reviews so we called the owner to discuss if they had any availability within the next day or so. He was super accommodating with the short notice and COVID-19 starting to impact the island. They were able to fit us in a day later. The captain and the mate were stellar. They definitely knew what they were doing. We hooked into a marlin when we weren’t even a mile from the docks, they were just beginning to let out the lines. We knew we were in for an exciting day. I caught a 25-30 lbs mahi on the way out to the tuna spot. When we got to the tuna grounds, we probably had 10 on and landed about 6. They let us drink and play music the whole time. They were very informative and were willing to answer any and all questions from me or my wife, which we appreciated because fishing in Hawaii is much different than Florida. They even let my wife help drive the boat, which was really cool because she isn’t as much into fishing as I am. She loved it! They called our resort to let them know we were bringing the mahi back for ourselves. We were so excited to have it for dinner that night. They were one of the reasons our honeymoon in Hawaii was such an amazing time. You can tell they are very professional and cater to the group they are with. We are so glad we did the extra research and didn’t just go with our resort concierge’s recommendation. These guys are real fisherman. They get after them and never give up. Our captain had the eyes of an eagle. If you’re trying to go fishing by Ko’ Olina, don’t look any further. Go with Boom Boom. You won’t be disappointed. Thank you so much! Read moreWe had a party of four for this excursion. Our captian was Tony and his first mate was Jayden.
Right from the start, these guys were pros and showed up on time. They were friendly and helped his with all our stuff.
Once we were on board and on our way, Jayden started rigging up the 6 lines they had in the water. Tony took us out to the edge of the reef and we started fishing.
It was slow at first, but we did see a baby whale and a pod of bottlenose dolphins.
As it so happened, and was much expected, my Raider hat flew off with the wind. Tony asked of I wanted to try and retrieve it. I said "no" and that is was a sacrifice to the gods of fishing. Wouldn't you know it. Within minutes we got two Mahi Mahi including a trophy sized bull weighing around 40 pounds. It was worth the sacrifice, and I thought at least I'll always know where that hat is. Unfortunately, a few minutes later, the baby whale swam past us wearing the hat so I guess it will be off the coast of Alaska by September. Who knew? I thought he would be more of a Dolphins fan.
Anyway, we caught one more Mahi Mahi a little later. No one else was willing to sacrifice a hat so the action died down.
Tony asked if we wanted some of the tuna he caught earlier in trade for the trophy Mahi Mahi and we agreed.
Tony asked if we wanted to arrange for the mounting of the big Mahi Mahi. I declined because I figured I'd rather spend the money on another fishing trip with him.
This was such a fantastic trip. We all had a great time. Fishing with this crew was more like hanging out with old friends. I hope I can make it...
Read moreBooked a fishing charter in advance for June 21 2023. Paid deposit and got a confirmation email for June 21 2023. The dock was an hour drive from our hotel in Honolulu. Arrived at dock A as instructed and the gate was locked. After waiting approximately 20 minutes we called the the number in email and the "captain " said they were already out with another group. He stated that he accidentally wrote us down for June 28th. We had all looked forward to fishing that day as this was the only day available to us to fish. He had 1 spot available on June 23 that one child could fish with a chaperone that wasn't allowed to fish. So this "captain" messed up 6 people's once in a lifetime fishing trip in Hawaii and didn't even let this child fish for free. Charged him the full price. If the "captain" had let the boy fish for free it would have gone a long way showing the other 5 people that he truly was sorry. But no, had to charge him the full price. I would never book another charter with "Boom Boom" fishing charter if I ever make it...
