Absolutely loved my time at Hawaii Polo Academy with Ty and Lito!

My review is coming from someone who currently plays polo and improved significantly during my stay stick and balling with Ty and Lito. I was on Oahu for 2 weeks and came to see them 6 times! Thats how much I loved it here!

I was SO happy to find this place, its the most beautiful polo field I've ever seen, right on the ocean! Ty was patient, kind, and understanding, immediately picking up on 3 bad habits I have, and giving me careful correction and advice on how to work on those habits even after I left! With polo, you consistently ride different horses and so while I'm used to riding multiple horses I can still be a nervous rider. Ty's horses are extremely calm and RESPONSIVE. Sometimes you will run into lesson horses that KNOW they are lesson horses. They become barn sour and you need to use a lot of leg to get them forward and they know immediately when the lesson is over and just plod back to the barn. Not here! These are tuned up polo horses that KNOW and LOVE their job. I rode 3 of her horses during my two weeks here and loved each one of them.

That being said, if you are not a polo player, don't fret!!!! My partner has ridden a horse twice in his entire life and took a lesson on one of her horses and this horse really took care of him! He was able to hit the ball on his first try! To have the range to be able to be responsive enough with a polo player and then the very next day be able to cater to an absolute beginner is the type of versatility her horses have- which is so COOL!

The ranch is also such a gorgeous place, even a trail ride around the property will leave you breathless! On one ride we even saw wild piggies!

Ty is such a rad person, she is a really great communicator and instantly makes you feel at ease. If youve been on a horse a million times, or if it will be your very first time you should definitely check out Hawaii...

We LOVE Hawaii Polo Academy! Ty is a fantastic teacher, bringing positive energy and enthusiasm for the sport. Our daughter has enjoyed taking riding lessons from Ty for over one year now, and really looks up to Ty as a great leader. Ty is patient, takes good care of the horses, and gets her students learning quickly. She gives her students many opportunities to tend to the horses, and also allows them to try polo if desired. We have always felt comfortable with Ty keeping our daughter safe, while also having fun in her riding lessons. We feel so incredibly fortunate to have found Hawaii Polo Academy! The community is very welcoming and kind, including many awesome people we have connected with who are involved in the program. The location is absolutely beautiful, and Ty is very good at taking her students to multiple areas on the ranch to practice different skills. It is a treat just to be out there watching! Ty is a fabulous and encouraging instructor. The horses are well trained, healthy, and a joy to ride. I have ridden hunters, dressage, and western. I was thinking about a trail ride while visiting the island. I brought my paddock boots and helmet. I saw polo lessons. I signed up.

For $125 we had an intro to holding the mallet, sorry I rolled the wraps inside out…, a polo wrap demo(I wish my Vet school clinicians had been half as good at teaching wrapping,) then we rode to the field practicing swinging at grass targets as we went.

There is so much to learn and Ty taught us basics and moved us on from there. She explained polo rules and play. Hitting the ball is fun.

I wish I had visited earlier in my vacation so I could have ridden again. Next time. I will also bring breeches and gloves. Skip the tours, best $125 spent! And yes, please tip your instructor. Ty...
