SOBU — Local services in Oakland

A few weeks ago, I purchased the LEVIATHAN LIVE EDGE DINING TABLE - SMOKED ACACIA from the SOBU warehouse. I had been searching for a solid live-edge wooden table and visited various stores, but none of them felt right. I was looking for a table with clearly visible knots, something more rustic, and with a thick board. Although I found some good options online, I wanted to see the actual product before making a decision. I called the store and was told that it was on display at the warehouse, so I went there immediately. I fell in love with the dining table at first sight and bought it right away!

Later on, after some thought, I decided to buy chairs as well because they matched the table perfectly. I also emailed Alessandro (Owner and Designer) to inquire about a bed set that would match the table. Unfortunately, due to the size of our house, we couldn't purchase it from SOBU, but I really loved their design. Alessandro and Nick were very kind and helpful, and I appreciated their assistance. The design is very refined yet sturdy, and I am extremely pleased with it. Ever since I got the table, it has been fun to go to our dining area!

What a wonderful gem of a store!! The selection of furniture, rugs and art pieces is incredible — beautiful, unique and gorgeous items. It is design center style and quality but at very reasonable prices considering the quality.

The team at SOBU was also incredibly helpful. We bought two large rugs from them for our home. We bought one and were so happy with it that we immediately came back and bought another. While we were deciding they gave us large samples to take home so could see them in the space. They also offered great design advice along the way. And they helped us find great rugs in stock (not always easy in the design world). They were incredibly patient, responsive and helpful — both in person at the store and over email.

We are in love with our reclaimed wood coffee table and fabric chair. Our table has tons of hidden storage space (good for a small house), and the variegated wood adds warmth and interest to our living room. The table will probably be with us forever. I think the furniture that Sobu makes in in line with the aesthetics and values of many people in the Bay Area. It is durable, practical, comfortable, sustainable, and beautiful. Sobu is a local family owned business, so I guess it is no surprise that they offer excellent service. The first time a table was delivered to our home there was a slight imperfection.
