I will start by saying that I honestly never do this "RIP" anyone in a review, but what I just experienced merits it. I lived close to this door. I spend between $300 and $400 every month as an individual, trying to support them and help them. And because you should stay local.
But today I didn't have a lot of time. I went into the store at 9 o'clock when it opened, just to get some coffee that I love. They didn't have the brand. Dark roast that I was looking for. So I was there, having dinner, and I had to make dinner for four people. One of them's a professional chef who asked me for a few things to be included in whatever I made. So, I browsed the store. I'm walking up and down the aisles, apparently "randomly". But I didn't see anything I wanted.
The store manager, who would not give me his name. An angry, thin. Hispanic guy. He comes up to me and says, "Are we going to have a problem with you? Shoplifting."
I was shocked. I said to this little man, who is a project manager and business development analyst for an AI company (Rubble.AI), I make twice as much as I am sure, "I buy stuff here all the time." He said, "I know that really well. But you're browsing carelessly, looking at all kinds of random things. I'm just letting you know that I want you to leave and not come back."
I said, taking my computer bag off my shoulder, "Please check it. Look. Frisk me if you want. I don't care. I don't take things, and I never have. "
He didn't care. He said, "I have a right and I want you to leave." He probably did me a favor. But ticked me off. Their produce typically rots within two days, even when stored in the refrigerator. They're cheap because they buy crap thrown out (LOL). All questionable quality wholesale food. Just 0.02 miles from me - close. And why not? Cheap.
Nonetheless, I went down to Walmart. I get everything I need for my dinners. I spent about $160. And I came back home. I'm signing up for Instacart now.
He had no justification. He was profiling because I was wandering. That was it. And I've been a customer of that store for 7 months. I'm never going back. He didn't have to ask.
I'm finding in this area, being an older white guy, you seem to wear a target. I represent "THE DEVIL" (apparently to those angry with life. I get this a lot. But maybe...it's...
Read moreI am a customer from Aldi since late '80s in Chicago. Actually many decades ago in Austria and Germany was my first experience. (Aldi, Hofer) Right now I live in Omaha, Nebraska and I know all your stores here.I mostly visit your branch here on 30th & Ames. A few months ago Mr. Schuyler, who I met a few years ago at the west center, got promoted to a manager at your store on 30th & Ames. Mr. Schuyler knows his store inside and out. You can ask him anything about the store. He knows it. You will always get a positive answer from him. Mr. Schuyler stays with a smile and a nice friendly voice. A few months ago I was going to buy a car cover and it was sold out at your store, but it was sold out. Mr. Schuyler called around to other branches to make sure I got the car cover and I got the cover I needed. What Mr. Schuyler showcased was customer service, above and...
Read moreI go Aldi's every week for groceries. I recently made a visit to Aldi's Tuesday, January 23, 2018. I purchased numerous items from the store located on 30th Ames. I am now trying to eat one of the "cuties" I purchased yesterday afternoon. It look to be old, and I am not able to peel it properly. I will be taking this item back to the store. I tried calling the number listed, however it was no help. I am very disappointed because Aldi's usually has all of the healthy items I need. But this particular incident is very disturbing. I hope that I have better experience the next time I go to purchase fruit from the store. Over past few years of shopping here, I've never had an issue with the...
