I almost always feel like I'm treated poorly when I venture here. I'm unsure if it has to do with my appearance (6'2, large black male usually wearing a hoodie or sweats), I work hard for my money and to feel that way when choosing where to spend it is unacceptable for me.
Once I was followed aisle by aisle parallel by who I assume was the owner as I shopped as if I were a thief.
I've inquired about having kits I was looking for ordered, only to be told to basically go order them myself online by same said "owner" individual.
I even tried to talk to the owner when he had a vendor table at the local Tulsa IPMS model show and he rolled his eyes and blew me off again.
The one time I bought rattle can paint from here it was defective and had to be thrown away (the can basically burst its contents all over me the first time I went to use it). Their paint section always looks rough (e.g. space, dusty, dirty, unkempt and uncared for for an extended period).
Not much in the way of sci-fi (my preferred genre).
My last attempt to see if they'd changed was about a month ago. I showed up middle of the afternoon (well within all marked hours and "adjusted" hours signage they had) and the door was locked. Not the first time I've had this issue with them either.
Update for my review of Top Shelf Models in Owasso 10-3-18*
The owner doesn't like the fact that I posted a negative comment about my experiences in his shop. I'm sorry but these have truly been my experiences in your location.
Rather than listen to feedback on how 1 of your customers feels they've been treated over several different occasions or make adjustments to your approach you respond defensively and aggressively 3 weeks after the feedback trying to somehow discredit or discount the continued displeasing interactions I've had there.
Telling me you have black friends and customers does nothing to erase the incident that I spoke to in my comment.
I've spent money there several times over the last few years at different times. Whether you can find my name in your database or not is irrelevant to me as I've been there several times over the last couple of years and even seen you at the tulsa IPMS shows. You're not even looking up my correct preferred name used if you used "Brandon Thomas".
You never suggested Ebay to me for anything btw, you told me to go direct to vendor sites and the kits I was searching for weren't out of production.
As far as your locked doors, not once when your doors were locked during your posted business hours was there any additional signage posted alerting anyone to anything. This has happened at least 3-4 times to me.
I don't know your email, nor have I sought it out. Google maps recognized I had been to your business recently and asked for a review. I spoke about my impressions there.
At the end of the day, these are the very real experiences I've had with you, your response to me further reinforced my negative times with you and I choose not support your business...
Read moreHands down the absolute best spot in Tulsa/Owasso for model cars, aircraft, ships, tanks and trains. You name a genre, he has it. Hundreds of supplies of every type. Paints, tools, effects, finishes. Edduard, Tamiya, Revell, AMT, Osprey, Marklin, Aristo, Lionel. And a very hefty selection of aftermarket decals and photo etched parts and cast resin upgrades for many model brands. Also anything you could want for building a diorama.
The selection is huge. It's old school and one of the last of its kind in Oklahoma. Probably the country. He owner isn't a people person, but he's extremely helpful and knows what he's talking about. Don't call here with dumb questions or have an attitude. He's no nonsense.
That doesn't take away for me as I enjoy the experience of not always getting the fake smile and mandatory greetings that come with most super stores and box stores.
Check the place out and see for yourself and come with lots of money to spend because you're going to find something here that fits your budget...
Read moreI moved back to Owasso after living in Dallas Texas for 32 years. This model shop blows ever model/hobby show in the Dallas Ft Worth metropolex away. So many stores concentrate on RC stuff and modeling is very low on their priority. But not at "Top Shelf Models" it truly is a model shop for modelers of almost any scale. I've found almost everything I've ever looked for here, and at prices that are comparable to online stores and in many cases better. If your a model builder Do yourself a favor and drop by. The no nonsense approach to sales is great and his knowledge of the modeling industry is un matched to anyone I've delt with over the past years... a true 5 star home...
