I wasn't going to post this review, but decided to go ahead. I have only been here twice. The first time I went was fantastic, but this last visit, not so much. One of my family members called to make a reservation for brunch a few weeks ago. They made the reservation with Nicole, who put us down for 10am on a Saturday. 10am is when they open, so this family member asked Nicole if the front doors would be unlocked a few minutes beforehand so that we could come inside and sit down to wait for our table. The reason being is that we would have a few elderly family members with our party and we did not want them to have to stand outside to wait since it was like 5 degrees. She said it would be no problem and the doors should be open when we got there. Great. We also requested that we be seated at a table away from the front doors, because again we did not want our elderly family members sitting in the cold draft. Again she said that would be no problem. So we all meet up at the restaurant about 5 minutes before 10am. Doors were locked. We called to speak with the hostess to ask if we could wait inside as we were told we could. She very rudely told us no and stated that it was the manager's policy to keep the doors locked right up until 10am. Nothing we could do, but we were a bit taken aback at how short she was about it. We were seriously contemplating going elsewhere, but since we already had a reservation we decided to wait. So she unlocks the door, doesn't bother to open the door for our elderly guests who were standing right there and she just huffs away. We go inside and sit down in the waiting area. No apology or an explanation even though we explained the conversation that was had with Nicole. Hostess acted like she did not care and just blankly stared at us the whole time we were waiting which was odd. Then she seats us at the table directly inside the front door... Specifically where we asked them NOT to seat us. Our table and seats, as well as many others, were filthy so we had to brush it off before sitting down. Looked like they were not cleaned the night before. The only positive during our visit was our waitress. I don't remember her name, but she had shorter dark hair and she was absolutely amazing. She was probably one of the best servers we've ever had. We explained to her about the reservation issue and she profusely apologized. Of course that wasn't her doing, we just wanted someone to relay that issue to the manager. So manager/owner if you are reading this, that girl deserves a raise.
As far as the food goes, it was great as usual except for those in our party who ordered the biscuits and gravy. The biscuits were more cake-like and extremely heavy. They provided complimentary bread and some kind of spicy butter, which no one at our table cared for, so we just didn't eat it other than just trying it.
I completely understand if you don't want your customers coming into your business before the opening time, but if that is the case then don't take reservations for right at opening! And don't let your staff tell people they can come in a few minutes before when you've made it a rule that they can't! Take reservations for 10:15 or 10:30 instead, especially in inclement weather. It just wasn't the best experience when usually everyone praises this restaurant. We just felt lied to all around and the rude hostess was just icing on the cake. Right hand didn't know what the left hand was doing that day I guess. We won't be back to this location for a good while, if at all. The Tulsa location is...
Read moreWas very excited to try Smoke as I've heard really good reviews. I went there with my wife, and we were both underwhelmed. Once we were seated, it took like 5+ min before the waiter came over. The service was okay at best. I ordered a house salad, and it was maybe a little above average. I ordered the Brisket Mac n Cheese and my wife ordered the Airline chicken. The Mac n Cheese was okay, but the cheese sauce was really runny and watery. The brisket was good, and they had these really good onion straws and fried jalapeño slices. But there were only like 3 jalapeño slices. I get the Mac N Cheese at Painted Horse in Bartlesville and it's much better. My wife's Airline Chicken was just okay. The potatoes and kale was really good, but the chicken wasn't all that flavorful. The best part of the meal was the bread and butter that they serve. You know it's a problem when the free bread is the best part of the meal. They night we went they were running an 8oz Peppercorn Sirloin w/ Cheesy mashed potatoes, and I wish I would've gotten that. A few other tables ordered it and it looked really good. Overall, it wasn't bad by any means, it just wasn't that great. I'd say it was better than average, but that's about it. I was expecting much more. I'll give it another try, and will probably do the steak next time. I wouldn't recommend this place unfortunately, not for the price at least. I'm really generous with my reviews, so to rate something this low means it was sub-par. Maybe the Cherry Street location is better, or maybe they just had a bad night? I'll give them...
Read moreI will start off saying I had never been to Smoke's brunch on Sunday. Had reservations when they opened at 11 AM. There was quite a line of people, maybe 20 waiting to get in. It didn't take too long to get seated. Our waitress got our drink order fairly quickly but that was the only thing quick about our visit. About 30 minutes after placing our order we were told there was a little bit of a back up in the kitchen. It was over 30 minutes after that that we finally got our food. I ordered the chicken and French toast dish. I rarely order French toast anywhere for breakfast anymore because most people are very lazy when it comes to French toast. This was no exception and I will say it was the absolute worst SO-CALLED French toast I've ever had in my life! It was just bread, lightly toasted. It was not soaked in the egg batter like it should have been. I don't want just lightly toasted bread with syrup. I'm not kidding when I say it was the worst I've ever had. Now the two chicken strips that came out with the French toast, those are some of the best chicken strips I've ever had. Our waitress didn't bring us our food, we literally didn't see her for almost a full hour. Once we were done eating, it was probably another 20 minutes before we saw her, 10 to 15 more minutes before she brought us our check and then about the same amount of time to bring us change. We were there for almost 2 full hours. Yes it was a nice company, glad I had good people to talk to but if I hadn't been with friends, I would've pitched a...
