My family had perhaps our most disappointing dining experience to date at Mad Eats last night. It was my son's 12th birthday and the ONLY place he wanted to go was Mad Eats. Unfortunately, we weren't able to go until after his brother's football scrimmage ended. We knew it would be tight with a closing time of 8:00pm on a Tuesday, but we made it to the hostess stand by 7:40. She was busy cleaning the entry when we arrived, which is fine and to be expected. She eventually made her way to the hostess stand to greet us. I told her we had a party of 7. Her response? A stern “sorry, we close in 20 minutes." She was turning us away; I was shocked! The place wasn't empty, either. I counted at least 3 other tables with people eating or still waiting on food. There were 2 or 3 servers plus a trainee standing around the bar talking alongside a bartender and another trainee. My husband and I routinely sneak in for a late dinner at Smoke next door and often don’t get there until 7:30 or 7:40 (they also close at 8:00pm during the week). We sit at the bar and are never, ever shooed out. We are always told we are welcome, that there's plenty of work to be done long after the kitchen closes, they're happy to serve us, etc. The staff at Mad Eats did not provide the level of service we are used to from these restaurants and I was completely caught off guard by her response, so I clarified: "Are you saying we aren't able to eat dinner here?" She went to ask another employee, then returned to collect menus and take as to a table. "Thank you so much! I know it's close to closing, and we promise to be quick. It's my son's birthday and this is the soonest we could get here." No response, no facial expression, just a flat and frustrated demeanor. That's when we should have cut our losses and left because it didn't end there.
Our server was fine. We ordered quickly and thanked him over and over. We had no issues with our food or drinks whatsoever. My husband said his Bloody Mary was genuinely amazing, maybe even the best he's had. I told our server it was my son's birthday. No response. No "Happy Birthday!" or even a smile. Just.... nothing. The other tables were still there and our food arrived right at 8:00. At that point, the staff made it clear that it was officially closing time and we were no longer welcome in the restaurant. By 8:15, the televisions were off. By 8:20, the Mad Eats sign was turned off. Half of the lights in the restaurant were already turned off as we signed our ticket at 8:25.
The atmosphere and the milkshakes are what we love most about Mad Eats, but this experience left such a bad taste in my mouth that I may never go back. I know we were "those people.” We acknowledged it and we hustled. We didn't even order a milkshake, to my son's disappointment, because we knew we were going to be the last ones there (but not by much!).
To the staff: many of you are young and learning what it means to serve customers. Some tables will be awesome, some will frustrate you, and some will have unfortunate timing. We all have bad days and there's grace for that. But at the end of the day, restaurant work is hospitality work. You have an opportunity to create an experience for your patrons, and the way you make them feel has the potential to outshine the food you serve. Don't be clock watchers. If you have paying customers in your restaurant, leave the lights on and keep the ambiance until they leave... even if it’s after the kitchen is closed. If you want to turn off lights and lock doors right at closing time, go...

Read moreGreat waitress, bad experience. My boyfriend and I came to have our birthday lunch and sad to say we won't be coming back any time soon. We were torn between this restaurant and the next door restaurant. We chose this one because looking through the window we thought it looked like a nice old fashioned dinner. It wasn't. Apparently it's suppose to be a modern dinner. Looking at the inside and seeing the decorations it definitely does not look or feel modern. But the music. It was loud and like alteralternative rock music. It didnt match the atmosphere at all. And then the food... we ordered the chicken sliders and the chicken was okay but the biscuits were burnt and crumbly. And then we couldn't decide what to order because the menu was small and had some rather odd options. They even had some Chinese type of food. The menu didnt fit the restaurant at all, if the restaurant was supposed to be an old timey diner or a modern dinner the food didn't fit. We ended up getting the double cheese burger because nothing else honestly looked good and I mean I thought you couldn't mess up a burger. However they tasted un seasoned and you could clearly tell that the pattys were frozen. I worked at sonic for a little while and honestly the burger pattys looked the exact same. Also he ordered the cole slaw and it was dreadful. I'm sorry but the food and the atmosphere was the biggest let down and that's sad. It was poor cooked and not good quality.
Edit: Changing my review from 1 star to 4 stars. I've been back a couple of times, and it's gotten a lot better. The food is a bit more expensive than I personally think it's worth but it's gotten...
