I have been going to this fair since I was 9 yrs old (that’s a long time). Like anything, it’s not like it used to be. Maybe I’m just too old to appreciate the expensive low budget flare of it all now. Maybe I’m still upset this fair did not have one onion ring or blooming onion! Or picnic tables randomly placed for proper ingestion of the overly priced greasy goodness of the low budget deep fried fair food! What is this world coming to! But, we did see people we haven’t in quite some time, ( some of which we pretended not to see) and we did make the best of it and had a lovely visit while sitting on the ground.
I did buy 4 wonderfully knitted dish cloths, a cheeseburger for me (meh), sausage with onions and peppers for him (he had a time of it finding the meat in that bun), a lap around got us fried dough to share, and another lap and we got some French fries. We would have made another lap for a blooming onion.
We did see dilapidated minivans ram into each other. Lasted a good 10 minutes before they were all dead. Couldn’t stand the exhaust fumes so didn’t stick around for more.
I found the best entertainment in watching the incredibly eclectic blend of everyday people milling about. Marveling how fashion has really gone sideways, upside down, and backwards. Yeah, that’s it.
I once caught a pig in a pig scramble at this fair. Made the local paper...

They have a pig scramble and as we were leaving a girl was carrying a piglet in a mesh onion bag the piglet was hardly moving and was panting, tongue sticking.out! They let the pig down it stood up then collapsed from heat and dehydration that is animal abuse and I bet that piglet doesn't survive DO AWAY WITH PIG SCRAMBLE IT IS...

You pay the same rate and parking fee no matter what time of day you are there...left after a 1/2 hour...pretty disappointing after traveling over an hour...
