My āDawg Daysā Diary
Day 1: The TalkersāIntroverts becoming great conversationalists. I come in ready to ātake the plungeā with my older brother, Kim, (a cancer survivor, and, as of this day anyway, the current beast or ābig dawgā for most time in the water at The Dawg Pound or TDP). By talking to my brother and the owner, Brady, while I am literally āchillingā, I inadvertently beat my brotherās record by two minutes.
Day 2: This Old DawgāOn a Roll. I and my broās visit is preceded again by a morning walk that leaves me a little sweaty, but I choose to start in the sauna today anyway as Brady and my brother talk through his plunge. When I then do my cold plunge after I can no longer stand the beads of sweat rolling down my face in the sauna, I beat my Day 1 time by five whole minutes! Then I go back into the sauna and then double-dip in the water and dunk my head this time to emerge ultra-rejuvenated. Surprising myself at the Dawg Pound has been pretty awesome!!!
Day 3: Sleep deficits and dizzinessāMy Aging Brain? Some vertigo symptoms /sleep issues get in my way and my brother flies solo on this day but meets new friends at TDP without me.
Day 4: Back for more: A day missed does not a failure make! My trip to visit my brother in Florida is turning out to be a very providentially-orchestrated adventure because I needed a āresetā in every possible way before arriving. The Dawg Pound is an important part of that for me. I am walking on and in sunshine again as I leave TDP, not breaking any records, but having hope for breaking old patterns of behavior and thinking about myself, my limitations, my capabilities.
Day 5: Feeling way more alive: Woo Hoo! Brady is a bit busier today encouraging the community thatās starting to coalesce at TDP, (family day this day), so I and my brother mainly talk through his cold plunge though Brady stops by when he can. After my plunge, I go in the sauna, meeting Analisa, a first-timer at TDP. I donāt beat my own best, but I do double-dip and leave happy and refreshed once again.
Day 6: Feeling āsickā (as in a āsickā amount of enthusiasm and adrenaline rush after my stop at TDP) but a poor nightās sleep the night before (yes, again) leaves me unmotivated šŖ« to best my brother or even myself, but I still do meet my first record inadvertently while talking and leave TDP feeling recharged yet again. š
Day 7: All good dawgs (and Dawg-dippers) go to Heaven!! I am happy to have one last morning here before returning to Utah this afternoon, but I am sad to be leaving TDP because it has given me such a kickstart to wanting to achieve new fitness and well-being goals of every kind. I come today with fairly significant dizziness, and think I may have to just have to watch my brother do his plunge, but I end up suiting up and getting in and my dizziness disappears completely, just as Iād hoped it would. Singing and dancing in the sauna and another dip before I go and Iām right as rain again!
Seven days ago, I came into TDP feeling like a back-achy (literally), worn-down shell of myself. I am still 60 years old when I leave, but my heart and even my back are feeling at least ten+ years younger. Getting a wild hair (of The Dawg) to do this in the first place has has helped me get my hope and spirits back! I came into TDP in āDog Dazeā mode and leave feeling I got to enjoy The Poundās āDawg Days of summerā here with my bro instead. When you come in, (youād be foolish not to), please do an extra double- or triple-dip for me (and yourself)ā¼ļø I definitely plan to visit my brother and TDP again. . . and again, as Providence permits. In the meantime . . . Go Dawgsā¼ļø Yours truly, Shelley, wanna-be āSuper Dawg Shellā (Said Arnold Schwarzenegger-style,...

I came to THEDAWGPOUND for the sole purpose of doing the cold plunge for the shivering effect.
As part of my metabolic health rehab after chemotherapy, I learned among other things cold plunging has the wonderful benefit of activating brown fat (via shivering) which burns glucose to generate heatā¦
At my first ever cold plunge, I was hoping to do 30 seconds but that dirty DAWG Brady distracted me with genuine engaging dialogue, until the moment he announced I had been in the plunge for 10 minutes!
Iāve been a loyal monthly member ever since, plunging 10 minutes every morning.
Iāve since added a pre-plunge sauna (15 min) which Iāve noticed adds another layer of that āwellnessā feeling I get (after I stop shivering).
Brady is the most client friendly business owner I know, ļæ¼ always looking for another way to add...
