The Buckin' Flamingo — Local services in Pawhuska

I do not recommend this place whatsoever. I visited this place back in the end of December while having an otherwise amazing trip to Pawhuska, and for the first time ever in my 31 years of life I experienced racial profiling and being followed around for no other reason than being a Hispanic woman. It wasn't even subtle. I walked in behind a white family, and while they were greeted happily with a smile, the associated openly scowled at me and turned away. I was there specifically looking for books about the local history, and the display was right by the checkout counter. The woman rushed behind the counter, leaned over and glared at me the whole time I was squatting down to browse the books. Again, it was NOT subtle. She never looked away and never said anything. I finally got so uncomfortable I stood up and went to browse somewhere else. She immediately follows me, not 2 steps behind, throughout the entire place. Never said anything. Never asked if I needed help finding something. Oh, but she did make sure to offer her friendly assistance when we walked by the white family. When they exited before me she called out for them to have a nice day, and then when I left a minute later, she didn't say a word while standing there with her arms crossed and glaring. It was horrifying. I have never in my life been treated this way. It was absolutely foul. I was in Pawhuska for 5 days and every other person I encountered was so welcoming, warm, and friendly. I am obsessed with the Buckin Flamingo and all of their jewelry. I have purchased several pieces from them and every time I’m more impressed by their dedication to the craft of the jewelry they sell and their customer service. The necklace in the picture was posted on their facebook when I went into the store the next day I asked to see it. The employee said that Lauren and Cody had just got it in and it wasn’t in store yet. The other employee took the initiative to go and pick it up and bring it back just so I could look at it!! If that’s not dedication to customer service I don’t know what is. My Mom and I happily visited for the first time Saturday... We are so very happy we did!!! She bought me 2 rings that the young woman sized me up for the mom surprised me with earrings.. yes she did lol.. we also walked on the other side of jewelry and there we bought 2 planters and honestly we barely touched the tip of their large assortment of jewelry that we both lamented about after we left town but there's ALWAYS next time for sure..
