The biggest reason for only giving them one star is the customer service. I have called multiple times on different days at different times about some locking mechanism issues I was having and the average wait time for me was 45 minutes. Longer if you choose the call back option, which was around an hour and a half. Really frustrating when you're trying to get an urgent problem fixed, say for example get a handgun out of a safe that stopped working properly. UPDATE on my most recent phone call, I timed my wait time. I waited for 3 and a half hours for someone to finally answer the phone for me.
The second reason is the very short lifespan of the HD 200 safe. I have replaced the batteries regularly for the electronic touchpad lock, but in only three years the locking mechanism broke. "Wear and tear" doesn't, or rather shouldn't, happen to a gun safe that fast. Now when I enter my code the lock just clicks twice but doesn't open. Can't get it replaced, and due to the costumer service, I can't get a call back unless I block out an hour and a half of my day, just to ask a question.
Lastly, at one point I requested a new key for my safe, and I was sent a document form requiring verification of ownership as well as a stamp from a notarized representative confirming the legitimacy of the document, as well as my credit card information and mailing address. The ownership verification person said that I didn't actually need to fill out the form, and then I could just request a key. When I called liberty safe back and they finally answered, they said I actually did have to fill out the form. So then I had to go back to the verification representative and try to explain that I had to get their help, and to no surprise at all they said to just call liberty safe back and ask them for the key because they didn't actually have to fill out the form. Back and forth is not super helpful. I'd recommend getting a different safe. I think this may be part of the reason liberty safes are so cheap to purchase. I have not had a good experience being the owner of one. In the future I plan on going with a different company and maybe no electronics at all, simply because of the bad impression this experience with liberty safe has...
Read moreAfter doing my homework on safes, I ended up purchasing a Liberty.
During my research, I could not help but see that Liberty has taken some heat as of late, as I'm sure you are aware. My decision to purchase a Liberty safe despite the recent bad press was an easy one. My careful consideration included factors such as quality, American-made, overall reputation, warranty, and customer service. Based on my research, purchase, and interactions with Liberty's customer service, I can confidently say that Liberty is a phenomenal company that I highly recommend.
So, back to the recent negative press… Liberty made it right by changing their policies, including allowing their customers the option of having the master code removed from their files and ultimately doing right by their customers with customers' interests at the forefront.
I highly encourage you to look at the entirety of the company: being quality, made in the USA, having a solid reputation, standing behind their products with a phenomenal warranty, and having top-notch customer service, along with the fact that they changed their policies to further solidify customer satisfaction and trust. I can confidently say that I assure you that you will not be disappointed with their products; you will be impressed with their high level of customer service and warranty, and you will have peace of mind with your purchase.
I chose Liberty and have complete confidence in the company, products, and warranty in the unlikely event I need...
Read moreI own a liberty gun safe with the securam toplit keypad. The keypad began to malfunction. Even with a brand new battery I couldn't get into my safe. Called customer support and they offered to send me a new key pad under warranty. This was nice but I couldn't wait for it to arrive. I found a local retailer and they had the keypad in stock so I went and bought it. Installed the new keypad and I still have the same issue. Called customer support and waited 1.5hrs for someone to answer. After trying everything customer support suggested, I still couldn't get into my safe. They stated they would send a new lock to a locksmith and have them come drill into my safe and replace the lock and keypad. They stated the locksmith should receive the lock within 5 days. The locksmith would then contact me to schedule. So I'm still locked out and will be for at least a week. They advertise as American made safes but they use chinese electronics that fail and lock you out of your safe. I will be buying a mechanical safe from someone besides liberty after this ordeal. Absolute garbage. They'll also delete your facebook comments as they...
