I’ve played this course for years. And I think it’s great. For anyone considering this course, you can chalk up a lot of the bad reviews to it being challenging and people being upset about losing balls. Challenging course and your own poor play is not a good reason to give a course a poor review. Grow up.
Over the last few years drought and poor irrigation left the course in rough shape. Reviews critiquing the course during those periods were fair. But the course is currently in great shape. It is a dynamic layout with lots of elevation change, and you have to be smart about what shots you make. I think if you only play the course once, and don’t play with someone who knows the course - you can easily walk away hating it. If you want a boring, flat track where all the holes are the same then this is not for you.
The price is also one of the most reasonable in the area. And, unlike other courses, when there are issues impacting play (like aeration) they will give notice and will discount the round (at least that’s been my experience). The staff, from top to bottom, is also very friendly and helpful.
TIP: Take a cart - this course really isn’t walkable in my opinion. You could walk the front but the back is a beast. The carts run great and are equipped with GPS. Also, unless you are a low handicapper and/or really know the course - play from the whites. You will have a much more enjoyable round.
4 stars instead of 5 because for a few reasons. The pace of play sometimes can get bad, and I rarely see any rangers out there moving slow players along. But this is a pretty common challenge at any public course. And sometimes you can get done quickly. There is also no driving range and no nets to hit into. But there is a large putting and chipping green by the first hole. There is also no restaurant and it is a dry course. But you can buy some snacks, gatorades and a premade sandwiches/dogs in the pro shop.
Overall I would highly recommend checking it out. The price is very fair for what you are getting. However, if you are a high handicapper and only plan to play it once - you might want to skip it or bring a...
Read moreI've never been one to make a bad review, especially for a place I've been playing at since I started golfing, but my last interaction warranted this review and more.
This past fall, I had a buddy of mine and his wife fly in from NC for the weekend. We booked a tee time at the Meadows for a Wednesday mid-morning on a gloomy day. My buddy's wife is from the area, so he used her father's clubs, and she was just going to ride along and hit a few shots here and there. When I arrived to the course, I paid for all 3 of us, not just the 2 actively golfing.
Upon their arrival, the "manager", was extremely rude to both of them, stating that there are no spectators allowed, and that she was not allowed to play without her own clubs. I wasn't expecting her to ride along for free, hence I paid for all 3 of us.
It got to the point where he was yelling at the 3 of us and told us he'd call the police if we didn't leave. His words we're that "there are no spectators allowed on the course" although she said she would share clubs with her husband and play while she was out there as well, which still didn't fly for him.
Referencing the course's "rules" online, no where does it state that there are no spectators allowed or that you cannot share clubs. We happily left and went over to Beverly Golf and Tennis, another frequent spot where they had 0 issues with us playing like this, as assumed.
After 6+ years of golfing here, you will never catch me there again, and anytime I hear people talk about the Meadows they will be hearing my honest opinion of the disgraceful treatment we endured that day. Shame on...
Read moreA very challenging course, and extremely hilly! A few holes are, in my opinion, not very well laid out on the back nine (just my opinion but I think they could've done a lot better!) Example is hole 14 (I think)....must lay up off tee, then lay up once again unless a perfect shot is hit...it's a par 4....this could, in my opinion, be a truly exceptional par 3!....on the plus side course is usually in excellent condition... didn't care for the fact that groups are sent of the back nine in front of groups making the turn....recently played there and did the front in about two hours...got to the back and caught up with a group sent out and pace of play came to a standstill....I mean almost 30 minutes to play a hole...passed this group (they didn't offer to let up play through) only to catch up to another group that was taking forever....this is a very challenging course from...
