Our family was supposed to have a reunion at Outrageous Cabins. Family illness and other matters meant we had to cancel our reunion in Tennessee. I contacted OC in June, long before the required 14 days before the event in August. While our $45 hold was credited to a cousin who is still simply going to that area, I am still waiting for the return of my payment. The others in our party who canceled have received their refunds.
Relations with OC were very polite, and I did my best to remain polite, as well- until I started asking for the whereabouts of my refund.
At first, I was told OC would look into it. I was told they could not simply credit the debit card I was using because it had been over 90 days. I checked with the issuer of the debit card, and that simply isn't true, but rather it appears to be Outrageous Cabins’ company policy.
Then, I was told I had to contact their accountant, Mark Krysta, who does not work in the same offices as they. This is because Mr. Krysta's offices are in Georgia. I was given Mr. Krysta's email, a Gmail account. OK, I forwarded my correspondence thus far, and politely asked the same questions I'd been asking the Tennessee office: Was my refund mailed, and if so when. No answer.
The next day, I was given a phone number for Mr. Krysta, and left a message on his answering machine. I also forwarded my correspondence. At no time did I exhibit scolding, lecturing behavior. I simply stated that it has been three weeks, and I needed to know if the check had been issued, and if so, when. On the phone, I tried to talk, but as I have a summer cold, I had trouble modulating my voice, as well as speaking clearly. Mr. Krsyta's reply via email, hours later: "Before you lecture me, please explain who you are"
I forwarded Mr. Krysta’s email to OC's email, reservations, the only email I had. I did, at this point, threaten to spend my weekend (it was Friday) making sure OC's behavior toward the whereabouts of my refund was known throughout the Internet (my husband talked me out of it). I was told by Billy that I shouldn't make threats, and it would do me no good in any event; however, they were going to spend the time looking for my refund.
It is now Monday, July 6, 2015. I still have no information on my refund or its location.
Most large businesses operate so that, with a click of a few keys, a person in one location miles and miles away can see what has been done by a person in another location. There are security protocols that can be had in the Cloud, as well as connections that can be made using servers thousands of miles apart from each other. Yet, OC can't find the refund check of a couple who is raising grandchildren, and doesn't often take vacations.
It is our money, my husband's and mine. We politely asked for the return of the refund, well within the time frame specified. I think the two questions, was the refund check issued and if so when, are questions that should be able to be answered not in days, but minutes.
Perhaps Outrageous Cabins needs to get its accounting system into the 21st century, so that customers can go to a website, and with a logon and password, look at their accounts, without bothering the people who work for OC. I have to say, that's what this experience has made me feel, as if I am bothering these people for our money, and somehow...
Read morePlease DO NOT STAY HERE. A BEARS VIEW is covered in mold in the downstairs bathroom and above the refrigerator right under the Jacuzzi tub. We stayed 3 years ago and it was great but not anymore.3 yrs ago the down stairs shower was broken well guess what... It STILL IS... The Jacuzzi was leaking from downstairs into our kitchen. We opened up the front. The WATER WAS 4 INCHES FROM THE ELECTRIC SOCKET!! KAYLA THE MANAGER SAID THAT THEY DONT NORMALLY LOOK UNDER THE JACUZZIS BUT IF THE ELECTRIC SOCKET WAS COMPLETELY COVERED IN WATER IT WOULD STILL BE SAFE TO USE IT BC THEY ARE MADE THAT WAY!!! Of course we knew better. Our kids were not going to be using a leaking Jacuzzi with the possibility of being electrocuted! We knew it was leaking when my 4 yr old said it was raining in the kitchen! We looked closer and noticed the brown circles in the wood were not brown where the water dripped. It must have been leaking for a very long time. THE CIRCLES IN THE WOOD WERE COVERED IN GREEN AND WHITE DOTTED MOLD!!!!! We took pics. We knew we had to get out of there then but that wasn't it. There was hair all over the downstairs bed. Crumbs on the couch. I had already washed everything before I saw the mold. The washing machine makes a horrible squeaky sound. The cabin is beautiful but how can a company let it go so bad. We had already been up to the office 3 times now we called about the mold Jacuzzi and almost getting electrocuted and we're told we'd get a call right back. An HR later we had to drive back to the office. We were moved after only 2 days at A BEARS VIEW. We only got to spend 1 night in the cabin we had chosen. It should have never been available for renting. They gave us a cabin on the other side of the street with an obstructed view so our once beautiful view was now looking a 2 cabins and a tree. We had to repack 5 people move and unpack. Then that night we spent 5 hours at the nearest Emergency Room with our 2 yr old son. He has severe asthma and we think the mold aggravated it so much he couldn't breathe. We thought for sure they would do something for our horrible time and them renting a cabin that was not ready. The manager offered us $50 for our next stay with them!!!!!!!! Our u kidding me. Plus they had a bears view ready for someone else to stay. The manager didn't know what the greenish white substance was but WASNT SURE IF IT WAS MOLD... AND THERE WAS SOMSOME SCHEDULE TO CHECKIN 5/11/18. We just checked out today. I told her it was UNSAFE TO PUT A FAMILY BACK IN THAT CABIN! BUT THE MANAGER SAID THAT SHE WAS UNSURE ABOUT THE MOLD OR THE LEAKING JACUZZI!! I asked if I could go back in the cabin to get a sample of the mold to have it tested at a lab. KAYLA THE MANAGER REFUSSED TO LET ME TEST IT. You can find a great view anywhere but don't risk your families health over it. Please take this review seriously! The customer service service and maintenance... Or lack of.... Has destroyed my once great memories of this place. They just don't care about the safety of people. It's all about money. There is no heart in OUTRAGEOUS CABINS. but their $50 offer for our next visit would not have worked if one of us would have been hurt in that Jacuzzi. I don't even think they are going to fix the mold or leak...
Read moreFrom the time we checked in, things only went down hill. We specifically booked ‘Smoky Mountain Dream’ because the website indicated that there were 3 full beds. Since we had 6 adults coming, this was a necessity. Upon arrival, it was immediately apparent that the website misinformed us and that there were only 2 beds, therefore leaving 2 of our guests with nowhere to sleep. After a fairly long argument with the manager, Kayla, where she argued with me and told me that we were wrong in what we read on the website, I finally sent her a screenshot of the webpage that we viewed...where it specifically stated that there were 3 beds. Kayla did acknowledge the mistake and offer us a discount to stay, which we accepted, but 2 of our guests were forced to sleep on a pullout couch for the entire weekend. Speaking of the pullout couch...the first time we pulled it out, a half empty water bottle as well as a dirty sock came out with the mattress. If that doesn’t make you feel like a place is cleaned well, I’m not sure what does. On the last night of our stay, we arrived back to the cabin for the night only to find out that we were locked out. Luckily, the office was still open and a girl came to attempt to unlock it with about 40 different keys, none of which worked. Maintenance was finally called and was able to get us inside of our cabin...after standing in the rain and cold for about 45 minutes. This all happened about 9:30 pm...the office closes at 10 and doesn’t have any sort of emergency number located on the door or website. So we would’ve literally been locked out of our own cabin for the night if we had been a few minutes later. Once inside, we attempted to relax and eat some of our snacks—only to discover that the closed bags had been chewed and opened on the corners by what appeared to be mice. Fast forward to trying to go to sleep upstairs...we were unable to sleep because there was some sort of rodent crawling and scratching in the attic space directly above our heads so loud that we were unable to sleep. If mice/rodents/whatever it was are a big enough issue that they eat the guests food and keep them awake at night, it seems like they would at least be attempting to treat for them somehow. From the first day, this place was a smoky mountain nightmare. I would not recommend anyone to rent this cabin or from this company...
