We recently visited Prime Steakhouse and were really impressed with the food. The steak was absolutely amazing — we had the flat iron and the petite filet, both cooked perfectly. The included sauce was delicious and elevated the asparagus nicely. The wine list had some great options as well, especially the Cabernet Sauvignon selections, which paired perfectly with the meal.
Service-wise, things felt a little inconsistent. It seemed like all of the servers cover all of the tables, which made things feel a bit clunky. At times we were asked multiple times if we needed something, and at other points, no one checked in for quite a while. It might just be part of the adjustment period since they’re newly opened, but having one server dedicated to a table could make the experience smoother. That said, Jennifer (one of our servers) was fantastic — she went above and beyond to make sure everything was perfect, even on a busy Friday night. The manager (shorter, light-colored hair) was also excellent and really stood out for her attentiveness.
We did notice the chef (and maybe owner) stopping by tables to check in, which was a nice touch — although he never came to ours, which felt a little strange. Less enjoyable was overhearing him speak a bit harshly about a staff member; hopefully that was just stress from this being a newly opened restaurant.
The space itself is small, so I’d definitely recommend making a reservation. We sat at a four-top by the door and, thankfully, it was just two of us; if there had been four, the other guests would have been bumped into frequently.
Overall, the food was truly exceptional — among the best steaks we’ve had in Grand Rapids, even compared to the more popular steakhouses in the area. Despite a few service hiccups, we’ll absolutely...
Read moreThank you to Kristine, the hostess with the mostess, who waited on Thomas and I for dinner tonight. We didn’t have reservations, but we needed a date night and I’d seen an article about this fabulous place around the corner from our house. And the food is amazing. And now I’m bonding with Kristine over mutual friends. She has excellent taste in cocktails. Try the cucumber mule.
Also, for the record, the shrimp cocktail is actually amazing and not just a basic appetizer. The bruschetta was delicious, not too tough or too chewy. Tom had the 20oz Delmonico Ribeye and was licking his fingers. I tasted his Brussels sprouts and they were fabulous. He cleaned the bowl from his potatoes before I could ask. I had the Flat Iron Wagyu and it was crispy on the outside and melting on the inside. The grilled asparagus and mashed potatoes were perfect. And my plate got jostled on the way to the table, so the chef* took it back to be re-plated so it would be perfect.
Finally, we had tiramisu for dessert and it was wonderful.
This is worth changing my flight and coming back early so I can celebrate my birthday here. And I like to sleep. Special thanks to John (who stopped by often) and to Scott Ingersoll (owner and aforementioned chef, which I didn’t realize until I asked for his name) who was cooking and serving personally. We will...
Read moreWell, you see the outside before the inside. When our waitress asked the other waitress if she knew if they offered steaks with bones she admitted she knew nothing about the steaks. Judging by the cheap ratios, probably a rib gal. Ordered it medium rare and it was perfect RARE for Grand Rapids! Lots of fat, and gristle… and FLAvOR. Reverse sear. Slow cooked inn plastic bag (yuck) then severed (HOT HOT HOT). I will return to a restaurant if I like the rolls. Drop $200 at Leo’s or $500 at Chop House. Prime brings them out straight away, nice, or you could spend a buck at Meijers Outlet for the stale dinner rolls. They slice sticks of butter themselves, which I never saw before, but liked, because it tastes fresher. (No, you don’t want to have...
