I was really excited for this event to be in our area. There were so many really good reviews that I read before going. I tried not to have expectations and just see what happens. Hopefully my experience is not what everyone experienced and it’s just the short straw for me and my group.
I was in a group of four with a ticket time of 8:40 PM, we got there early as suggested I think a little after eight. The first check-in point was just to confirm that your electronic waiver was signed so I highly suggest that you do that first because a lot of people did not.
It definitely felt unorganized, and the initial check-in could’ve been done a lot quicker with more than one person (but it just would have been a bigger group waiting to get in). It was kinda like herding cattle.
To give you an idea, we stood in line to make sure a waiver was on file just to get on the other side of that check-in to wait in a big group’ish line to wait again to be let out of the cattle herd and pulled out in a smaller group of 25-28 get a ride on a tractor pulled trailer with hay bales to another check-in point. That process took about an hour.
We were taken to another check-in point where our tickets were confirmed, and we got into another line. It was more open and more line feeling than cattle herd feeling. There was a taco truck which two people in my group ate and said it was really good. They also had restrooms and a little snack shack that had pretzels, candy, and waters maybe.
We waited in line for about 40 minutes to be separated into smaller groups. Our group had 12. We received instructions about safety, not touching the actors, not using profanity and not using your phones or flashlights. Then we were told to follow the yellow brick road of little electronic tea lights illuminating the path.
I’m not sure of the timeframe to when we were separated in yet another smaller group of just the four of us.
I will not give away any of the scare details of what is inside of the event so as to not spoil it for anyone reading my review. There were times that I was kinda scared but on the level of you know somebody sneaking up on you not actually screaming or feeling terror or fear. There were a lot of other people screaming while we were there. I think in my opinion, they put the groups too close together. We saw and heard what was happening to the group in front of us. Completely took away the element of surprise. I could also hear people coming behind us. There was a point to where we were in an area that was enclosed and dark and hot, and it is packed with people from front to back for a very long time. I turned my phone off for the experience so I don’t have time frames for what happened while we were “inside.” But we were in that area for a really long time. That area was the end of the attraction and we were lead out in groups of 10 which brought us to another place to wait in line to get a ride back to the entrance.
We got back to our vehicle at 10:44 pm, two hours after our ticket time, and arrival time of 8:15 pm. So be prepared to wait. Wait to check in, wait to get a ride, wait to get into the event, wait to move into another area, wait to get a ride out.
I can say that they did a really good job on their set designs, the costumes were good, the actors did a phenomenal job, all of the staff were helpful and friendly and seemed happy to be there. The terrain was a little rough for me and I did wear walking shoes. It is very dark because you are in a forest, there’s uneven ground - it’s nature, there’s stairs and steep planks to walk down, and your lighting most of the time are those little tiny tea lights.
I really hope that other groups were able to be farther away from each other so they had the element of surprise, which really is what it is all about. All of the waiting, the dust, the dark and the close quarters (don’t go if claustrophobic) would’ve been worth it if we would’ve had the opportunity to be scared.
Also we were there on the second day so I am sure there are kinks...
Read moreIf I could give this haunted attraction a genre I would label it as suspense and thriller rather than horror. You walk through the forest and enter or pass through various areas of different themes. It was a experience that had you in suspense for 45 minutes. Actors were great, set up was well thought out. Very pleased with the experience but they could have bumped up the scare factor a bit more (more areas where you have to walk single file lines, jump scares down low, horror/gore additions etc)
Some info: Everyone must sign a disclaimer before you enter. We had to wait through the entry line of signing the disclosure before you are transported to the entrance of the forest. Once there you have to go through another line to verify your tickets. There are some areas of fog, only 1 major area of strobe lights. Lots of jump scares and some fun surprises.
It was a little bit backed up at the end of the haunted forest, I hope they are able to make the transition a bit smoother in the future so less actual time of waiting while in the forest. I had hoped they would have more of a lingering area at the entrance of beer pong and corn hole, although they did have corn hole, this area felt like more of an after thought and less of a hang out area.
The parking situation was a little messy, but given it was only their 2nd night, that's to be expected.
Overall, very pleased with this attraction. The suspense that they build up got a lot of our group real nervous but in the grand scheme of things, we had...
Read moreMy family went to the Haunted Forest in Winters for the first time tonight and we had an absolute blast! This by far was the scariest haunted production I’ve ever been to. It’s outside, in the forest, in the dark. Your group is given a small candle to light your way through the twisty pathway of scares and screams. Across bridges and down hidden staircases- such a great design. Eventually, the candle is taken away and you go through a dark place with lots of creepies jumping out at you. Clowns, spiders, psychos, and chainsaws… oh my! (Nothing scarier than a clown!) A little bit of everything to scare everyone properly. I admit that I screamed so loud my husband complained of the noise lol. The “swamp” part was awesome, wish I could stayed there awhile but there was a scary freak chasing me through it lol. And the ferry ride at the end was very cool. I absolutely recommend this place!! You can tell they all worked so hard on this! They put on a fabulous show; you won’t be...
